Recently, people having been talking about sexual diversity in video games. If you think about it, a lot of video game characters are heterosexual.

HOWEVER! I have noticed that there appear to be gay or bisexual characters in Fallout: New Vegas.

Who are they?

Veronica: Who says that she had a female lover

Arcade: Who implies that he is homosexual do to having a "Confirmed Bachelor" dialog option, and saying something along the lines of "Now I know what your thinking 'why hasn't some bachelor swept this man off his feet yet?"

Tabatha: This one is a bit stranger, but she (and yes, it turns out Tabitha is really a she) is in love with a robot named Rhonda. Will I suppose Tabitha being a robot messes with the gay/bi idea, but Rhonda is a female name, so perhaps Tabitha thinks she is a women (but she is insane)

Corporal Betsy: She talks about feeling bad for killing girls in the Fiends gang. But then she says something like "But maybe it's just the sex, when I see a cute little number, I want is to get in her pants."

The Courier never once says to them "Hey, did you say a girl lover?" or "Wait, are you gay?" He just lets it go past him like nothing strange has been said. This makes me feel better about future sexual diversity in video games. While it isn't too important, it adds a little more depth. XD

So to add some discussion value to this, who are some gay/bi characters in different games? And am I mistaken with the characters I have mentioned?

There is a gay male prostitute in New Vegas, whom you may actually pay to have sex with.

That's good. Gay/bi characters are infinitely better than the boring macho straight characters.

I don't know. True a gay character seems more interesting then a macho straight. But still, it depends on how the character is written.

For example, I would much rather enjoy a macho man with lots of backstory and character development then some "OMG GUYZ I'M GAY" person with no development besides that.

XD no offense.

Makoto (the only example I can think of right now) from Enchanted Arms is amazing, though. He's the best character in the game.

With the Confirmed Bachelor perk, you can hit on Major Knight at the Mojave Outpost, having a back and forth conversation about "friendship."

Also, Manny Vargas has a VERY transparent man-crush on Boone.

The Courier is one of two fallout char's that can be gay or bi via perk choice or hooker choice. The other one being fallout 2's chosen one.

Gotta consider the setting for this. The Fallout universe is a 1950s America retro-futurist setting. For the most part, openly gay people would be demonized in such a setting. A sort of 'gay underground' would be expected... if the world in general weren't as horribly brutal as it is. Such concerns are secondary to survival, really.... so in the closet is pretty much the only way to survive reliably.

Considering that most of the enemies in the game are male, Fallout: New Vegas may be the first major studio-released game that actually makes being gay/bi a solid tactical decision.

NOONE MENTIONED PERSONA OMG OMG

Look up Kanji from Persona 4, or even better, just watch the Extra Credits from this week.
Nobody mentioned Persona 4 because it's not part of Fallout: New Vegas.

Don't forget that doctor in Camp forlorn hope, and that one ranger that sends you to investigate Nipton.

Personally I found it incredibly refreshing, like a nice cold Sunset Sassparilla on a hot summers day while Sniping a Deathclaw a hundred yards off. Having a character that I relate with views on sexuality that I relate to is great.

Herp derp
Derpenderp. Persona 4 has been discussed to death in the Extra Credits thread, and nobody in the thread has been discussing different games. And Persona 4 sucks.
