Origin Adds 11 More Publishers

Electronic Arts is expanding Origin with 11 new publishers, beginning with Rift maker Trion Worlds.

If you want people to shop at your store, you have to give them something to buy, and so it is that EA is looking to plump up its selection of games on Origin with the addition of 11 new publishers. Origin currently has over 100 games on offer, which sounds pretty decent at first blush but pales in comparison to the more than 1800 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/115085-Steam-Sales-Double-Again-in-2011] titles up for grabs on Steam.

Over the "coming months," Origin will begin carrying games from CD Projekt Red, Freebird Games, Recoil Games, Autumn Games, 1C Company, inXile Entertainment, Paradox Interactive, Core Learning Ltd., N3V Games, Trion Worlds and Robot Entertainment. And no, it's not exactly a blistering lineup of industry heavyweights, but one of the big attractions of digital distribution is the ready access to obscure games produced by relatively unknown companies. Some days you want to play Skyrim, and some days you want to play Crusader Kings 2.

The first new addition to the Origin lineup is the Trion Worlds MMO Rift [http://www.riftgame.com/en/], which debuted on the platform today in both the standard and Ashes of History editions. For a limited time - although how limited is unclear - gamers who buy Rift through Origin will also receive the Screechling Vanity Pet and the Ascended Gift Pack, which includes a ten-slot backpack, Essences of Health and Magic, Soul Nectar and Words of Might, as a free bonus.

Yeah some more games who are going on my boycot list, if they sell their games just over Origin in the future, cause I will never ever use this programm.

Well fuck those money grabbing bastards I'm going to stick to exclusives only!

OT: Good for them, if any games they offer are decent and at a good price I'll probably end up buying one or two.

I can't imagine the EA/Valve spat will go that far. Remember, it's because of EA's insistence that it sell DLC directly through its games rather than stand-alone through Steam that's causing the trouble, so as long as these third-party games avoid that, I don't see any issues. Plenty of other digital distributors carry games from these publishers, after all; GamersGate used to be (and maybe still is) owned and operated by Paradox, and carries all its games.

The fact is that the above users seems to have read "will have games on" as "has signed an exclusivity deal with", which is wrong. Hence, knees have been jerked.

I slightly don't like doesn't cover my opinion on EA in the slightes *cough*

EA in itself is a big fat Liar and in my opinion ruins the whole computer as a gaming platform. That is however my personel view and I hold on to my believe in this kind of thing.

If all people would care what some companies do we as customers would use the influence we have with OUR money.

But a lot of people just consume, buy and don't care what is the result.

Often you have no choice (you are poor and can't affor to buy clothes not produced in China) but Games are a hobby.
Here "I myself" can choose wich company gets my money. And so EA Ubisoft and Activision have proven countless times that.

1. They don't care for their customers
2. They try to fool us (EA EULA, Origin)
3. And charge to much for their products and destroy the normal economic of products (EA never lowers prices under 20?)

Thats just the tip of the iceberg.

And if you read my post "complete" you would have seen that I wrote "if they sell"
with a big fat IF.

I thought they were against DRM..? Or is that not an issue with Origin any more?

CD Project is present on Steam too.
But Steam and Origin in itself are just platforms of distribution wich are DRM.

And from an economic view its not wise not to use all channels to sell your game,
but if you allready use Steam I dont see a point in selling games via Origin.

Especially with the issues Origin has.

I bought the first DAII DLC and it was a lot of messing around. Buying DLC through Steam for FO:NV was, by contrast, a straighforward and much more pleasant experience.

Eh, most of 'em are on Steam already. Kind of surprised CD Projekt Red signed on with it, what with their whole treating the customer like people and all. Which contrasts with EA's treating the customer like shit.

Indeed. And it's only gotten worse. Now when you try to buy DLC it exits the game, takes you to the story, where you have to click links to buy Bioware points...

It's just a whole pain in the ass, and I have no idea why EA just couldn't put its DLC on Steam in addition to what they're own process. Like how Fallout 3 has its DLC's available on both Steam and GFWL.

Ironically, I'd actually be prepared to pay a quid or two more for DLC through Steam if it came down to it just because I'd value the convenience (which I believe may be one of EA's problems with Steam).

Seriously Origin needs work before it is even equal to Steam. I am happy steam is getting some competition yes but..Origin... erm no!

Seriously prices that are at lowest $20, sure you gotta make money but .. you know as gamer. If I see a game that doesn't has to be a 5 star 10/10 game for $7 on steam. I probably buy it. If I see it at $20.. it better be an old classic, or something pretty good.

It is a market of choice there are many games.. so I have the choice.

Still not gonna use Origin. Steam has almost every game I want, and for the ones it doesn't I won't have to use Origin to get.

It took me a long time for Steam to drag me kicking and screaming into its claws, and I _like_ Valve.
I have nothing but contempt for EA.
