Wait, what's wrong with origin? Just because you are required to download it to play BF3 doesn't really mean you have to use it to buy stuff.

I run Origin on start-up and I haven't got an "OH SHIT" moment...yet.

Honestly people overreacting much, its easy to say 'BOYCOTT' and 'IM NOT BURYING IT CUX EA SUKZ' but seriously, its not like EA are the first ones to do this, look at steam for instance, so what its 5 extra minutes of your time for a great game, and im sure you wont need to open it 100% of the time, look at steam for instance, it is one of the best online services up there with Ebay, its not that much to remember an extra password, for god sakes you would need one anyway, remember that you need to sighn into the BF User Account in game so that way you can keep multi accounts on one game, this is also a way too keep 'battlelog' a free CoD:Elite type service running easily so as to ensure it is moderated well.

The PC has already got one major digital distribution method in steam. When it came out yes it was lambasted for being slow and buggy but over time it has almost become a preferred method of distribution for many pc gamers, its almost as if steam is the pc.

I have over 100 titles on it and close to the same number of "friends". I have an account, groups, profiles, I can see what my friends are up to and join them in an instant. By moving to origin I am leaving all this behind just to play one or two good titles from EA and a whole bunch of shitty ones. I also have to give them yet another username and password and potentially my card details.

Quite simply its just a bunch of shit I can live without eating, its like buying a new console to play one game simply because the game maker wants to own you lock, stock and barrel.

The game will probably rock, the trailers look awesome; I have been unimpressed by the last few cod games, both SP and MP; I loved BC2. It looks like my money is my own as EA are not getting it, let me keep what im happy with and the community I know and the money will flow. For now go join GFWL and other aborted attempts at control and see how well you do.

I'm still not going to buy it.
I don't think that origin was a smart idea on EA's part.
Agreed.
I really like Steam, and I'm not about to get another distribution service.

Not that I was going to buy Battlefield 3 anyway though.

It's actually a really stupid move for EA. Anytime you limit the locations of your product, you are making it less available. They want to beat CoD, they won't like this. CoD will be sold on everything.

It hurts them to do this. Whether it's true or not, a lot of people have said they won't be purchasing it because it's not on Steam. That is stupid for a game that will probably be really good, but I don't blame them either.
They probably will seeing as how CoD took away the dedicated servers again.

Unless things have changed and they've been confirmed but I can't find any other info saying that's the case.

Origin Offers Gratis Games to Battlefield 3 Buyers

You're buying Battlefield 3 anyway, so why not pre-order through Origin and get a free game while you're at it?

If you've been reluctant to hop on the Origin bandwagon, maybe some free games will change your mind. EA is giving away Battlefield 3 [http://www.amazon.com/Dead-Space-2-Xbox-360/dp/B00309U0M6/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1313430625&sr=1-1] buyers as a pre-order bonus. It's an "act now" sort of situation, though; the promotion ends August 31st.

Remember, Battlefield 3 won't see the light of day on Steam [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/112129-EA-Confirms-No-Battlefield-3-on-Steam], so PC gamers planning to play the game don't really have a better option than succumbing to the seduction of Origin at this point. This is a smart move for EA. Limiting the release of one of the year's biggest games funnels buyers toward that particular digital distribution service. Restricting how and where someone can play your game is bound to set off more than a few fuses in the community, though. Maybe free games will help quell some rage.

The games on offer are a great bunch. Both Medal of Honor [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/8629-Review-Dead-Space-2] is easily the weakest of the bunch, but BF developer DICE is responsible for its top-shelf multiplayer. This promotion ends just in time for EA to start up the multiplayer beta for BF3, access to which serves as another pre-order perk.

Battlefield 3 is available for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on October 25th.

So...could you spend $5 to preorder, nab the free game, then not pay the remaining $45 and not get Battlefield 3?
