Oh Australia, you're so my least favorite country.

Seriously though don't they already ban violent videogames there?
thats germany. they love banning violent games but welcome boobs any times. australia has just a stupid rating system. they just censor games like L4D2 and GTA SA and 4 i think but thats pretty much it. they did ban few games like L4D2 but just because of the stupid rating system.

@topic
damn, how i hate religion. especially christians. they always talk BS and have practically no bloody idea what they are talking about. if you go back in to history, most of the battles were founded by the church. all the knights were fighting in the name of god. the swords were shaped like crosses.
what did they blame 100 years ago if some one was shooting randomly people? aliens??? or maybe blamed the person for not believing in god.

at least good to see that australia dont listen to them.

To quote an Australian term, This guy was a nutter before he started playing video games, and he'll be a nutter long after, too.

I know this is a gross oversimplification, but there are generally two kinds of insanity: mental/psychological insanity and criminal insanity. The former can usually be treated with medicines or therapy. Criminal insanity, on the other hand, is often untreatable, and most people who suffer from it spend decades or their entire lives in prison. Others who suffer from it become megalomaniacs and/or dictators. There was even a study a while back saying that many undiagnosed megalomaniacs are multinational corporate CEO's.

Okay, as an Australian, I feel I should say something....

A few people on here seem to be confused, a few people seem to think that the Government is planning on banning Violent games.

What you should be made aware of is the fact that the legislation for most states and territories have actually been changed (or they have agreed to change) the laws regarding the rating system to allow M, M15+ and R rated games to be sold. Previously we had no R rating on our games and anything that was considered to be an R rated game in other countries was demoted to M15+ or had the major violent content cut out.

Now everyone but New south wales (sorry guys) have agreed to the new legislation.

In relation to the current topic, of the nutter in Oslo and the stupid ACL, the ACL are entitled to their opinion, as are all groups, religions, political parties, etc, but if they are good Christian folks as they claim, then perhaps their concern should be praying for the souls of the recently departed and their families and friends affected by this tragedy.

I myself am not overly religious, but my thoughts and love go out to all those affected by this single mans insanity, from memory Norway has one of the lowest rates of murder and violent crime in the world, which only makes this more shocking.

There was a shooting in Tasmania many years ago, a man shot over a dozen people I believe and I dont recall anything about video games influencing him...

"The studied indifference of this killer to the suffering he was inflicting, his obvious dehumanizing of his victims and the evil methodical nature of the killings have all the marks of games scenarios," Wallace told the Sydney Morning Herald [http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/games/from-fantasy-to-lethal-reality-breivik-trained-on-modern-warfare-game-20110725-1hw41.html].
Or he was a Neo-Nazi and was able to dehumanize his victims because he actually saw them as less than human. That might have had something to do with it. But no... Mr. Christian Anti-games Group wants to blame Modern Warfare and completely ignore the actual context of the mentions in the crazy dude's manifesto.

Oh ok... last time I checked very few, if any, games teach you to be a right extremist and go and kill off a bunch of children at a camp while simultaneously blowing another location in the name of ethnic cleansing. If I remember correctly games like MGS4 represent ethnic cleansing as you know...an atrocity!

So why is it always the Australian Christian Lobby, or Christian-based lobby groups that spout this crap? Sure, it is utter bollocks, but I'd at least enjoy some variety in the baseless attacks on an entertainment media that I enjoy. How about a Jewish politcal group, or one based on the Greek pantheon? It would at least sound cool if a plolitcal group started raving about how Apollo condemns video games ... Or Artemis! Goddess of the Hunt! That'd at least make sense "If people are inside playing video games, they aren't hunting wild rabbits as a sacrifice for my divine favour".

OT: So a religion based (supposedly) on love, acceptance, empathy, the sanctity of human life and all that jazz has decided to completely ignore the tragedy of dead people, and instead go straight to condemning video games ... Logic! There it i- ... oh wait ... Oh, it's over th- oh wait ... can someone help me, I appear to have lost my logic.

Hmmm, I liked Castlevania.... think I should go kill some kids... I mean VAMPIRES!
You mean Twilight fans or Goths who get waaaay too in character?

OT: Glad to hear some politicians are finally understanding that video games do not always equal crazy psychopaths. Just like Muslim does not automatically mean terrorist.

I am really getting sick of this country girt by sea I, for some reason, call a home.

If this kind of stuff becomes more than just talk, I will be packing my bags and leaving this place for good.

This is actually incorrect. NSW didn't vote on the legislation at all and then directly after the meeting, Brendaon O'Conner said it would just be introduced federally. And directly after that, the NSW AG said that he'd just do whatever anyone else did.

In other words, the whole country is getting a R18+ rating.

It's kind of funny because the Oslo killer also praised several darlings of the Australian Christian Lobby in his manifesto (http://left-flank.blogspot.com/2011/07/australias-islamophobes-right-wing.html) including George Pell and John Howard, not to mention a few kind words about their efforts down here. I'm going to put it out there that the far Right ideology of the killer had more to do with his decision to brutally attack members of the youth wing of the Labour Party than his choice in recreation. Consequently I would suggest that if the Australian Christian Lobby wanted to prevent similar acts of violence by rooting out their cause it should disband.

The gunman also happened to be Christian. Christianity also pushes people over the edge. Should Australia ban Christianity because it might just make a few people go insane and kill people in God's name? No? There is your answer.

Clearly this man was crazed and video games formed no part of his murderous intentions or willingness to carry them out. What would be more effective is a ban on showing this man's face or opinions or 'reasons' for doing this. Reporting his views and motivation have now justified, in his mind at least, what he did. It also does suggest to other potential Islamaphobic terrorists that there is some kind of underground support for this.

Concerning the churchs's view, why are they attacking games? Games only depict a rather absurd representation of violence, its no more real than any other fiction, often less so as the its of the virtual characters are more apparent when you can interact with them. Should the church not have a more fundamental stance against firearms abduction weapons in general!? I can't see how the Bible doesn't or how Jesus wouldn't condemn the machinery we produce and distribute every day that is designed for and has the sole intention of terrorising, wounding and killing.

A Christian Group is calling for the bannings of video games because a fundamentalist Christian commit an act of terror upon Muslims?

I don't understand.
They say he referred to MW2, but they don't mention the fact that he was reading the bible before you carried out the killings...I think we should ban the bible
