You may scoff but it's been enacted in law here to stop outlaw motorcycle gangs
As the State governments that enacted such laws have been finding out, anti-association laws are generally considered Unconstitutional. First case to reach the full bench of the High Court of Australia will be the end of such laws.

I find it really quite refreshing that the Australian Government is able to take this kind of stance on games now, even with the rating arrangements in progress. It's nice to see my country really kind of making a "name for itself" - though that might just be because I don't know of any other country giving this kind of response.

The man was also a Christian: lets ban religion!
The man was also a Norse: lets ban Norway!
The man was also Blonde: lets ban Blonde People
The man was also a Idiot: Lets ban idiots!
you get my point
I wouldn't mind banning idiots...
I couldn't agree more with you, but how do you want to manage that without getting a second holocaust? (not a really serious question)

Points to this person. I love christian lobby's sometimes. They provide me with the means to make myself feel better about my intelligence every day.

(also, blonde, with an E, its one of my personal ARRRGHS ;) )
I'm learning English with each passing day ;) and yes some lobby's can be really hypocritical and that's my number one ARRRGHS!.

We are actually quite socially liberal. It is simply a case of a vocal majority. The Christian Lobby holds virtually no sway in Australia, because a large portion of the country simply aren't religious enough (ie most don't go to church).
3rd largest 'religious' denomination in Australia, according the census data I've read, is "Atheist/Agnostic/Not Defined".

That's right, except for Anglicans (CofE) and Catholics (RC), every other religious denomination is outnumbered in Australia by people who don't believe, don't know if they believe or not or just plain don't give a shit... and also Jedi and other people who put in things that the ABS thought was just them taking the piss.

Idiots. If he had said a block of swiss cheese had made him do it, would they try to ban swiss cheese? If he'd said a pack of gum in a supermarket had trained him, would they be calling for bans on gum? It's all just biased nonsense.

Why not also ban fertilizer, christianity, and being bat shit insane?

It's funny how Norway is such a peaceful, peace-loving and multicultural democracy that the only attack we've had is by a person who thinks we're too much of a peaceful multicultural democracy. And what did our Prime Minister say about how we would retaliate? With more openness and more democracy, that's how.

Meanwhile, in Australia they're trying to ban video games, again...

I do feel really sorry for Aussie gamers, you guys seem to get royally shafted when it comes to gaming. At least in this instance its being treated like the daft link that it is.

Hello, didn't see you there.
"Newsreaders still feel it is worth a special and rather worrying mention if, for instance, a crime was planned by people 'over the Internet'. They don't bother to mention when criminals use the telephone or the M4, or discuss their dastardly plans over a cup of tea."

Anyway, goodbye.

that's the biggest and stupidest excuse for trying to ban games i've ever heard in my entire life, i'm sick of the australian government and their paranoia over games, every counry has the right to prohibit younger people who are under age from playing violent games, yes that is fair enough, but when they are 18....u have n right to ban them and stop from using ANYTHING i'm afraid, that is kind of the point of BEING 18 amongst other things, u get to watch films and play games with that annoying red 18 symbol in the corner >:D but seriously the violence in norway had NOTHING to do with games, that is like saynig the war between america and the middle east has to do with video games...it really doesn't, it was just a seriously disturbed person taking the law into his own hands because he didn't like certain people in his country.

Lets all ban Sugar, because it poison to anyone with diabetes!
And cheese, because it can kill people who are lactose intolerant.
Pets too! Because people are allergic to dogs and cats!

Yes, video games are bad for a small percentage of the population. But so is EVERYTHING ELSE on the planet!

For goodness sake, every time this comes up we explain the same things about how they're making illogical connections and assumptions and how gaming is at best a very minor influence on people who already are under incredible influences which hold much more real world credability and revelance in connection to these scenario's...

...and they keep ignoring us and repeating the same things we've just said are wrong and explained why. If they're not going to treat us with an ounce of respect why the Hell should I give them any respect.

Lets all freak out and demand the banning of any organized religion where one person who is a part of the faith goes nuts and shoots up an abortion-clinic/planned parenthood clinic/gay rights rally.

It's pretty much the same thing.

I think that this just proves World Of Warcraft drives people insane, not games in general.

He played WoW. Let's ban that.
He was a Christian. Let's ban that
He was a right winger. Let's ban that.
He used a gun. Let's ban those.
He was dressed as a policeman. Let's ban them.
He was in a park. Let's ban those.
He was a white guy. Let's ban them.
He was breathing air. Let's ban that.

The following might not really help but: HEY! Igot an idea! Instead of banning videogames how about you restrict guncontrol to make sure psychopaths(who arent planning on becoming Boondock Saints style vigilanted) couldnt get them.

John Lennon was murdered due to Mark David Chapman's obsession over Catcher in the Rye, I think we should ban that.

Crazies will take inspiration from ANYWHERE. What happened in Norway was a tragedy, I'm not denying that, but it's ridiculous how videogames somehow still take the blame.
