OUYA servers to shutdown on June 25th

After 6 years of existing in the dark, the Android console will finally shutdown.

I admit that I supported the crowdfunding, that I still have it at home (and that I haven't touched it in years). I have to say, I'm surprised it lasted this long (even if it was at the back row seats of the industry)

Bad idea. The market is the expensive consoles/PCs and mobile gaming; there is no real, meaningful gap. If anything, Nintendo has any gap well plugged as the meeting place of hardcore and casual gaming.

Lol, that was an actual ad? I've wasted money on games before, but never felt compelled to rip out and subsequently beat myself to into a puddle of gore with my own spine.

Who the fuck bothered to play this thing for 6 years? Much less keep the servers up? I remember some of the hype from Ouya from some GameStop employees about how it was going to revolutionize the gaming industry. I wonder how some them feel now as the local one I go to, they mysteriously took off after the disaster that was the Oyua.

oh wow, actually caught a glimpse of one of these once! it was at the back of a pre-owned elctronics store counter next to a box-set of kight rider or some shit a couple of years ago. then again, it was only the box. so it could've just been hiding drugs, alcohol or weaponry. had assumed at that point it was already discontinued

A youtuber called supergreatfriend did a series on the games. Honestly the downfall of the console was that the library was basically limited to the equivalent of the xbox online indie store. Mostly bad to meh with a few small mobile style gems. I think if they had scored a couple 20 dollar exclusives it could have gained a following as being a cut down switch before the switch.

TL;DR died because SteamOS performed worse than common Linux distros ANY Linux distro and there was little point in the things overall. Proton is now the big thing and it's actually gaining steam. No the pun wasn't intentional, yes I should still be shot for it.
