Overwatch Has More Than 7 Million Players Already

More than 7 million people have logged more than 119 million hours, Blizzard announced today.

In a press release today, Blizzard revealed that Overwatch has welcomed more than 7 million players across all platforms, who have logged more than 119 million hours, since the game's release on May 24. Those players have swapped heroes 326 million times and escorted 11 million payloads to their destinations.

"Over the months and weeks leading up to release we saw a lot of love and support for Overwatch-from Blizzard gamers, FPS fans, and people who'd never picked up a game like this before-and we're very grateful for everyone's incredible passion and enthusiasm," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We poured a lot of effort into creating a game-and a new universe-that anyone could enjoy. We're ecstatic to have had such a successful launch, and we're looking forward to all of the fun, competition, and new content still to come."

The shooter earned a 5-star rating [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/editorials/reviews/17056-Overwatch-Review-Blizzard#&gid=gallery_6249&pid=1] here at The Escapist, with our review reading, in part: "Overwatch is a fast, fun, and fresh take on the class-based shooter. Blizzard has made sure its first new IP in 17 years is polished to perfection."

The addition of ranked competitive mode, late June launch [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/167524-Ranked-Competitive-Mode-Hopefully-to-Return-to-Overwatch-in-Late-June].

I'd like to try it out. Redbox doesn't have it yet.
It's definitely worth it. Though it's better if you've got a friend or two.
Whats a friend? Can you eat it?
Yes you can. They're quite easy to catch too, as they don't know they're actually prey.

I wonder what the PC to console ratio is? Glad to hear it's doing well, hopefully they have more content coming asap though.

Apparently, competitive will be coming this month, so that's pretty exciting. I hope we'll see new heroes or maps in July or August.

This game is great, but I feel like it's begging for more maps/game modes, or at least a fucking editor on the pc so you can make your own custom maps for custom games.

Great polish to the gameplay and existing heroes, but besides that I feel like it's lacking.

I like mine with a hint of pesto aioli.

Mod tools would be awesome to help bolster content. Just hope it doesn't go the tf2 route and the developers stop pushing out actual content themselves.

I genuinely wonder if this game is good because of Blizzard fanboyism or because it is actually good. I'm not particularly interested in this kind of game so I haven't really looked into the actual gameplay at all.

You all can go over there and play Overwatch. I'm going to sit here and play Planet Coaster and Factorio.

angry joe gave it a 7/10 and i agree with this rating. its indeed a fun game but it does lack of a story after seeing these cool cinematic and none of them are there. and these loot boxes are a joke too because you get stuff you dont really want like for characters you dont even play or want to play.

And unlike Star Wars Battlefront, the players will be still playing this game 2 months after launch.

Lack of story seems like a weird critique for a multiplayer game with no single player campaign. At least in my opinion. I mean, TF2 didn't really have the most in-depth story either and look how many people played that.

It helps to join LFG websites. Playing with mics helps alert your mates what needs to be changed and where certain enemies are. When I go in full random, it tends to result in a loss because nobody communicates. I was calling for healing with the X key and someone just said "Then switch to one". Yes, very helpful. Good.

What do I need to catch one?
Booze, drugs, bait, and "broship" help a lot.

Or just use a pokeball. They make critters become your friend despite being consigned to a life of slavery and cock-fighting.

And the game has quickly become full of a bunch of entitled, whiny pricks.
You use Mei too much.
Why are you using Reaper?
Fuck you and your Roadhog.
I NEED HEALING!!! (on other side of map)
Wow! Totally necessary wall Mei! (blocked two turrets and a Bastion)
Plz no elephants or I'm leaving (I'm assuming he also means Roadhog)
Quit using the right side door!!!! (all the doors lead to the same place)
We lost because of (insert half baked reason here)

Maybe it's just me, but when I started playing just last week, most people were okay with losing. We were having fun. Now it's full of people that take it too seriously, who ruin just about any competitive game.

i also think that battlefront is dying out. after a few months after its release, origin already was offering it for half price and even allow to play the entire game for 4 hours for free.

point taken about no story of TF2. i guess people didnt care for it since part 1 was well known and therefor it was expected for part 2 as well.
never the less, overwatch is a damn fun game and thats what counts the most. just yesterday i didnt play it since i played the trial for catalyst. every now and then its good to play solo.

Shit people are everywhere, and Overwatch is full of people. As a game gets older the given community tends to lose the scrubs who complain about things other players use (X thing is 'broken', etc.) and make excuses for their losses. Give it time.

I'm glad to see this game is doing well, though I haven't played it yet. I really value focused multiplayer games, and the personality and shine is nice to see being successful too.

He critiqued a lack of content, moreso then a lack of story. Story mode was just one of the suggestions he threw out to actually make it worthwhile. That and the microtransactions in their fully priced game. Which are RNG on top of it, with rewards that 95% of the time won't be what the player wanted for their 1.99 (or more).

MP only really isn't an excuse. Unreal Tournament shipped with 40 maps and 5 modes. Overwatch shipped with 12 and 2 and half modes (3 if you want to pretend Capture and Control are different). Even going with modern games, Garden Warfare has nearly triple the content in modes and maps, (and functional singleplayer, unlike OVerwatch's broken bots)

Deservedly so. I used to stay faaaaaar away from anything remotely connected to multiplayer - and I haven't been playing anything else besides Overwatch since launch. If Blizzard can ease me into a genre that I had no intention of trying, chances are they pushed the right buttons with other gamers, too.
