Yes. Literally.

Blizzard is holding an auction to sell their old HP BladeSystem servers. They're auctioning off the hardware and donating the proceeds St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Blizzards CEO was quoted as saying:
Blizzard-CEO-Mike-Morhaime said said:
World of Warcraft realms are like the virtual neighborhoods of the game's community ? they contain the spaces where millions of players have made friendships, forged friendly rivalries, and created lasting memories. Each winner in this auction will own a small monument to those collective experiences.
You can find info, and maybe even toss in a bid, on Blizzards own eBay Page [http://cgi3.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=blizzard*auction].

Good Luck you guys.

Auctions are set to start on Oct. 17th.

Eh....I already have a Cata:Worgen poster signed by the dev team. I don't think I need anymore WoW stuff. Even more so since my account goes inactive in 7 days.

Nice move by Blizz, but I am quite sure they will wipe the HDs clean before sending them. As such the blades will have nothing special about them but that they were used in WoW.

This, only they will carpetbomb the neighborhood, put an asbestos lead over them, then a concrete sheet and send you whatever is left...

Again, love the idea, but I don't see the point of having a piece of hardware which data made special after they remove the data.

Oh, I thought they were going to start naming locations after people or something like that. Still pretty cool for charity.

Here is the question some people may have, will those blades have any data on them or are they going to be wiped clean? If they are wiped then your really not getting a piece of WoW your getting a piece of a server lol.

Well, looking through their F.A.Q. [http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/3710218/Blizzard_Charity_Auction_Benefitting_St_Jude_Childrens_Research_Hospital%C2%AE_Coming_Soon-10_13_2011#blog] Yeah its got no data on it but they make up for that by having their team sign it.

Q: Please describe this limited edition World of Warcraft server blade.

A: Each blade server comes with a commemorative plaque signed by the World of Warcraft team.

Q: Is the server blade functional?

A: The HP server blade is not functional and contains no World of Warcraft or Blizzard-related data. It's a barebones retired HP server blade, and is intended as a unique collector?s item and not a piece of functioning hardware.
Still, its something unique to have.

I think they'll get some good bids. Some MMO players get very attached to 'their' server.

Mind you, you just know that someone is going to buy one of these things then make a Youtube vid of it being smashed to bits with a sledgehammer. Take that, hated PvP realm!
