At the not-that-scary risk of coming across as a hipster, I have to wonder how this batshit anime managed to make both a better pop song and a better music video than most pop songs actually on the radio. The song in question, btw, is this:

Obviously, this is based entirely around my own personal opinion. However, this song seems genuinely better than the majority of semi-recent pop songs. It's catchy, has a lot of character, is quite energetic, doesn't take itself too seriously, isn't a half-assed romance / relationship song or about how awesome the singer is; it's surprisingly solid all around as a pop-esque song imo.

What are your thoughts on this song and my opinions here? Do feel free to blast my ass metaphorically if you feel like it, though obviously keep it civil and within the sites rules. Also, have fun and nerd out!

That sounds terrible to me, sorry.

I found it pretty painful to listen to, if I'm honest, but that genre wouldn't be my cup of tea anyway.

I don't see anything special about the video either, then again, I'm not really into anime so I might not get it but yeah, it's a no from me.

I managed to listen to 30 seconds until the autotone kicked in.

Nope, sorry, that's just blegh, no less generic than what you're bashing.

Seeing how I liked the anime in the first place, I do liked the song althought Scanty and Kneesock theme is still my favourite (they rule)!

As for the video itself, it's ok, nothing special since the last half is one big reference to all the past famous songs.

One man's solid all round pop song is another's unholy abomination, a sin against the entirety of creation the likes of which has never seen before and would be well worth the annihilation of the material universe to expunge.

Your opinion is not one I share.

IMO that's one of the worst songs from the Panty and Stocking OST and the remix album combined. I do say worst songs because those audio clips and joke songs like "Technodildo" don't really count IMO.

Fly away was way better to me, even if it's an obvious pick.

I can respect your personal opinion and taste, but I thought that was awful dude.
Here's a pop music tune from anime that I think is pretty good.

I'm finding it both surprising and hilarious how much people hate this song. I mean, I knew it would be derided, but not quite on this scale. Lesson of the Day: I have terrible taste in pop music. XD

God I love myself some Space Dandy. I don't get how it's not the new big thing, it's absolutely hilarious.

You're telling me. I freakin' love it, if it weren't for Kill la Kill, it would be favourite recent anime :3

The best part about that video is that it's literally just thrown into the end of episode with no context to pad out the run-time left over by the Chuck to the Future shorts, that's what I love about PSG, just when you think you've figured out its formula it throws something new at you.
But yeah, I always liked that video, partially because it fits very well thematically with Panty and Stocking's overall idea, and for all the various little musical references.
I still think Chocolat is the best track on the OST, it's a big part of why Phantom of Daten City was a fantastic episode in my opinion.

I also thought that was pretty crap. As far as pop music in Anime, I love Kill la Kill OP 2.
(Sorry about the link to the drum cover, their is no upload of just the song, probably because of copyright)

Debatable. I just listened to it and I'm having trouble remmbering anything. Catchy requires more than repeated words, it needs to be sung well, be interesting enough to catch the mind, and be fun enough to sing. This kinda fails all three.

has a lot of character,
Is it? It's the same poppy crap that Avril Lavange and all those bands where the boys are thin and look like girls put out over and over again.

is quite energetic,
Very slow, I found.

doesn't take itself too seriously,
Doesn't make it good. Just because something is satirising something else, doesn't mean that it can be shit and that's fine. It still has to hold up on it's own merits.

isn't a half-assed romance / relationship song or about how awesome the singer is;
"Everyone just wants to be me" I believe I heard in the chorus. It's about how awesome her life is and how everyone should be like her. Like every rap song ever. Or every modern R&B song. Or every emo song (although their songs are about how miserable their life is and how everyone should be like them).

it's surprisingly solid all around as a pop-esque song imo.
It's an autotuned mess which is actively trying to stop you from listening, and it's kinda a gigantic 'polymerization' of all the crap that's infecting modern music; bad singer, over the top autotune, boring music, electrically generated music, 'shocking' reference to female sexuality (which stopped being shocking about 40 years ago).

I rate it a 3/10. Not trying to be harsh, but too tired to add more humour. Sorry. Here, have my song so you can tell me how bad it is and we can be even.

I LOVE Ninja Sex Party. I went on a kick and relistened to their entire discography last night. Dragon Slayer really does it for me. I think it's the harmonizing that's way more prevalent than in some of their earlier stuff.

Danny still has yet to learn how to end a song, though.

Oh dear, do I see people ANALYSING a PSG song? Oh dear me. Things created by Gainex post Evangelion were never supposed to be anywhere near serious and are insane by nature, Trust me that song is NOT taking itself seriously, the show is called Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt even, it should go without saying. I should have seen this coming, most people don't really *get* anime around here. It's quite troublesome at times really...

I liked it actually, my entire music library is full of anime and game soundtracks so it's not surprising. Honestly I highly prefer almost any good songs that are written for a very specific reason (AKA a pop song full of references to fill the last 5 minutes of a PSG episode, see also the entire BlazBlue soundtrack because that shit is godlike) over any ordinary song that only exists for its own sake. I usually hate random songs in shows like this because i would rather y'know, just let the story continue properly but it worked here.

Thing is just posting a song from something without people having context is pretty awkward. As much as I love say, Kill la Kill I wouldn't post Before My Body is Dry raw and proclaim it to be the best song of 2013 because people wouldn't get WHY it's the best song of 2013. They would just do... exactly what they did and take an anime done by Gainex/newly formed Trigger 100% seriously, which is totally awful. They would need educating first. Education, half a pair of giant scissors and a talking, transforming sailor outfit.

Ironic you accuse people of missing the point, when you kinda missed the point yourself.

Nobody was analysing the song, OP asked what people thought of it, turns out people don't agree with him.

Pretty cut and dry stuff.

I may like that song, OP... But, I enjoy Fly Away and I Want You a lot more both in context AND out of context... The only problem I have with Anarchy is that it's better to listen to that song when you're watching the music video, and even then, as some people have pointed out (I guess), it doesn't always work out to be the "better" pop song overall... (Also, the song's a parody... and, if you don't get the satire (or do), it doesn't always make a song better to some people...)

...And now I'm reminded to the lyrics of this song right here for some reason:
