There's a sex joke in there somewhere and I'm not clever enough to make it.You'd think a dude that paranoid about Skynet becoming a thing wouldn't be quite so eager to turn everyone into cyborgs with unsecured backdoors in their firewalls.
There's always, "Phrasing."There's a sex joke in there somewhere and I'm not clever enough to make it.
Hey, baby, why don't you drop your firewall so I can probe your I/O ports? There's a sex joke in there somewhere and I'm not clever enough to make it.
Perhaps the nerdier among the PUA crowd refer to it as penetration testing.Hey, baby, why don't you drop your firewall so I can probe your I/O ports?
Keeping an eye on fixing blindness?Despite my deep hatred of that thing that pretends to be human called Elon Musk, I must admit that it's genuinely impressive tech that's being developed, and if it really can is able to do what they are claiming it's definitely something worthy of continuing development.
Like disregarding the pipe-dream stuff about telepathy and moving your consciousness to a robot, just like the whole potentially fixing blindness in a relatively inexpensive easy to do surgery sounds like a net-good, so it's definitely something to keep an eye on.
If by ordinary people you mean affluent people, then yes, I agree that is likely.Just like with designer babies, I worry about when the technology wouldn't be used to help solve people's problems but instead enhance ordinary people.
Of course people in Namibia can't do it, but nowadays with medical research you can spot if your unborn child has grievous genetic defects and you have the possibility to abort it. Taking it further, you can select sperm and eggs to choose certain characteristics. This had been around even before the technology with sperm banks - i.e. tall, blue-eyed, intelligent (get those PhD's, talented musician, etc.) and white guys are the most sought after. That is in the effort to try and select genetically for those traits. If by ordinary people you mean affluent people, then yes, I agree that is likely.
You might be thinking of eugenics, which was debunked as pseudo-science a long time ago as it was based on a fallacious understanding of genetics and heredity with a lot of really ugly racism thrown in. Gene therapy is different but offers its own problematic ethical considerations. This had been around even before the technology with sperm banks - i.e. tall, blue-eyed, intelligent (get those PhD's, talented musician, etc.) and white guys are the most sought after. I'm not in favor of eugenics. My friend is a big fan, though. We have arguments about it sometimes, for example he doesn't think women have a human right to be mothers, etc. It's not necessarily racist, though. Classic eugenics as I understand it is about breeding out genetic defects and undesired traits by denying reproductive rights to individuals that have those traits. Cut the bloodline at the stem. Yes, and those undesirable traits were generally seen in non-whites, resulting in the forced sterilization of many black women who ended up in prison without their knowledge or consent. Eugenicists were pretty big on saying that the reason that so many black people lived in poverty wasn't because of things like Jim Crow. No, they argued it was because black people were genetically inclined to be lazy, stupid and criminal. It's not necessarily racist, though. That falls under the category of medicine. The intent isn't to breed a Master Race. It's the decision made by 2 parents who do not believe it right to bring a child into the world who will only suffer and for whom they will not be able to adequately care for.Is it pseufo-science if we are able to abort unborn children if we detect genetic defects?
And again, medical ethicists are working on figuring out what we do with the implications of this technology. Nothing in a vacuum.Even further, you could seek genetic compatibility with a partner (which is something mandatory for the ashkenazi jewish community, on account of their history with genetic defects) before you even marry. You could select sperm and eggs in a laboratory (which is what is currently the cutting edge).
Your friend sounds like an asshole.

I have no idea what point you think you're making but it has nothing to do with what I said and is just showing your thin skin again.Medical ethicist tell you what to think? Do you have an opinion on this or do you defer to authority? Don't insult my friend.
You keep responding to me when I haven't even been in a conversation with you, always with the unprovoked attacks against me. You seek me out in the forums, if you look back at conversations you'll see you try to jump in and talk shit about me. Ignore me, you'll do yourself a favor.I have no idea what point you think you're making but it has nothing to do with what I said and is just showing your thin skin again.
Okay, now you're coming across as thin-skinned AND paranoid. What exactly were you trying to say? Because I, full honesty, have no idea what that previous post about Nazis was supposed to communicate. Just break it down for me.
