Paradise Lost: First Contact Makes a Splash On Kickstarter
By now, you are probably used to playing your videogames as Macho Rockfist, heavily-armed hero extraordinaire, the manliest of men who saves the world time and again with bullets, fists and an unflagging constitution. In Paradise Lost: First Contact, however, you'll experience things from the other side of the table as an alien life form - a plant, no less - who must escape a strange and dangerous laboratory on Earth.
The game is a side-scroller rendered in pixel art style and promises huge, complex maps and multiple paths past its many puzzles. The focus will be on stealth, with "nonlinear, Metroidvania-style mechanics," as well as RPG elements, action segments, "epic boss battles" and more, and everything will be shot through with "twists, mysteries and double-crosses."

It sounds pretty cool and it seems to be resonating with gamers, too. Paradise Lost: First Contact opened on Kickstarter on November 1 with a $70,000 goal and is already almost halfway there, not a bad achievement for a Spanish indie studio working on its first game. Beyond that, the team has several stretch goals in place including translations into other languages, additional "secret" chapters, visual enhancements and - dare to dream - versions for the PS3, PS4, PS Vita and Wii U. It's also up on Steam Greenlight [http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=190496143], and Steam keys will be provided with all purchases if and when it gains approval.
Don't spend what you can't afford to lose, as I always say, but if retro platforming and/or unusual narrative twists are your thing, you might want to give this one a look. The Paradise Lost: First Contact Kickstarter runs until December 1.
