Have your parents ever lied to you?, ever told you that something existed?. My parents had brought me up with all of the usual seasonal characters such as Santa, The Easter Bunny, The tooth fairy and more, but as I grew up and realized that none of these fictional characters existed (Santa is an iffy for me, Saint Nick's history is convincing). What do you think about this topic? When I found out that none of these existed, I was crushed. I hope this isn't a search-bar thread

Yeah, I was brought up on the same kind of thing. The good thing was that when I was of a certain age, my parents actually broke the news to me pretty gently and helped me realize that those things just made the special occasions in life a little more fun. I also found out a few years later that playing sneaky ninja Santa Claus myself for my younger cousins on Christmas eve was more fun than I thought it would be.

I was brought up to believe in Santa et al. It wasn't a big deal when I found out they weren't real. I don't see how that is a soul-crushing experience for some.

I used to believe in Santa when I was younger as well, until I saw through the whole commercial charade Christmas has become.

My brother scientifically disproved the existence of the Tooth Fairy. He lost a tooth, didn't tell our parents, kept it for a week under his pillow, then told them he'd lost the tooth. That night 'The tooth fairy came'.

After that it was pretty clear to us that the easter bunny, santa and the like are all improbable nonsense made up for kids. I don't think I was too sad though, I think even when I used to believe I was a bit 'meh' about it all.

I had the whole Santa Claus\Tooth Fairy thing, but it wasn't a big deal when I found out they didn't exist. I mean, hell, it's not like they were an essential, irreplacable part of my life or anything...

I used to believe in Santa, but one night I decided to check if he's coming. I endured the whole day, then minutes before 6AM I went to bed. Woke up at 9AM, and "Santa has left us presents".

So meh. Funny thing is, I know a dude that was 10 years old when he stopped believing in Santa.

The older I got, the less all the stories made sense to me. I realized that they weren't real but I didn't say so because my sister was 6 at the time and I didn't want to crush her soul. Also, I wanted to keep getting presents.
