Parents Television Council Calls Game Industry "Thugs" and "Bullies"

We're Americans.
We celebrate the Boston Tea Party, which involved blatant vandalizing of a commercial industry for the sake of making a point.
Mailing someone a piece of plastic saying, "I support the first amendment" should be considered a more rational, legal extension of this.

May I make a point, they are TOO STUPID TO SEE THE BIG PICTURE, all the parents think that they are just getting a law that prohibits the sale of M-rated games to minors, what they are actually doing is placing a constraint for developers to avoid the M-rating much like they avoid the Ao-Rating now, even then they may place another constraint, than another, than another, until the only rating is existence is Babies-Only. Secondly this is a law for stupid, gullible parents so they can avoid having to watch what their kids buy, personally my mother doesn't personally care either way (I've asked her), why hell I'm old enough to have kids and I can see how stupid, nay dangerous, this law is!

PTC: Let the government raise your children so you don't have to. Wanna bet there'd be a rating for "seditious propaganda"?

This is where the conservatives in America stand now. Fuck, talk about forgetting your roots.
Okay here's the thing. This isn't where conservatives stand at all. Hell, if anything they're probably against it, considering one of their core values is personal responsibility. This is actually stems from a very liberal ideology of, like you said, letting the government do things for you because they somehow know best. If you want proof, look no further than the smug douche who wrote this bill [http://dist08.casen.govoffice.com/]. This guy's a liberal democrat from a district in San Fransisco; one of the most liberal cities in the U.S. I live in California, and am very aware of why at least 45 of the other states hate our guts. This state's been trying to shovel shit like this down the throats of the country for at least the last 20 years. Now, I'm not necessarily expounding my own politics or trying to start a political flame war here. (If it happens anyway then sorry, totally my bad.) I'm just trying to show who's actually responsible for this, and it ain't conservatives.

Basically, the main person to blame is Senator McAsshat who, one day while wafting his own farts out of a brandy sniffer, decided that parents just weren't raising their gosh-darned kids right, and only a true elitist can properly guide this nation's youth. Also, no matter what end of the political spectrum the PTC are on, or say they're on, they are stupid regardless and definitely deserve the ire of gamers everywhere. They are basically telling us that they are to dumb and lazy to raise their own children. When little Timmy of Sally puts GTA IV on their birthday wishlist, Mommy and Daddy are too lazy to look into the game content and make their own rational decisions. No, the PTC wants someone to do that for them. Why the ESRB somehow isn't good enough with their ratings, I have no idea.

Sadly I'm a PC gamer so due to lack of console I am regrettably devoid of an old gamepad to send to Senator Fucktard. I have and old busted mouse around here somewhere but that's just not the same. Also I still have my old Sega Game Gear, but I'm not parting with that. Hmm, maybe I'll hit up my cousin and see if he still has his old X-Box controllers.

The ESRB isn't good enough because it isn't government controlled. More governmental control over private lives has now become a bipartisan goal, both sides do it. Conservatives haven't given a toss about civil liberties since the mid-80s, which is about the same time the Republicans started cozying up to the Moral Majority. The appeal of voting Republican used to be that that you knew what you were getting: a cynical old man who pinched pennies and truly believed in smaller government. Neocons are just the nail in the coffin of that ideal.

Ha, I'd never even heard of this legal battle before, but it's so ridiculous! What's the point in them going to all this effort and spending all this money when they could just... hmm... be responsible parents and make sure their kids don't buy M rated games?

Any gamer, at one point or another, was definitely a bully: I.e. Calling someone a noob, griefing, live flame wars, etc. What we aren't are thugs.

I totally agree with making sure that minors don't buy violent games. The same way I wouldn't want my 12 year old child to watch requiem for a dream or basic instinct. But that doesn't mean that I should impose my view on adults as well. An adult can make informed decisions on what he / she wants their experience to be like. If they don't like violent movies / games / books, then they are mature enough to know that and not purchase any.

But I believe in choice. The choice to play it, the choice to read it, the choice to watch it.

I live in Malta, a tiny island in the Mediterranean. Unfortunately, the country's leaders are puppets to the will of the extremist catholic church, that impose their "catholic" views on everyone who lives here, catholic or not. Our religion is taught in all schools, no divorce, no chance to abort (I know these are delicate topics, but its a reality I live in), no porn of any form can be sold over the counter, no pornographic material can be shown on TV, dressing up as a priest for carnival can get you arrested, fined, and sent to jail.

Extremist groups that want to impose their views on others are an insult to freedom of all shapes and sizes. If YOU don't like it, then YOU don't have to buy it. But let people make their own decisions.

I can see how old and/or broken game controllers flooding your workplace mailbox can be inconvenient, but it's not like we're sending pipe bombs.

I'm getting scared. I need a hug.

They ought to hire Genghis Khan to take care of these bullies. I was the greatest defender of nerds back in my day in the schoolyards of Mongolia. I'd teach these cyberbullies (and real life ones) a thing or two. Hahahaha!

I wonder how many of these parents actually play videogames for a start off. I am guessing that they are all jumping on the "all games are bad" bandwagon without really experiencing videogames themselves. When I was younger, my parents set up the games consoles in the front room so that they could monitor not only how much time my brother and I spent on videogames as well as what games we played. It doesn't take much effort being in the same room as your kid when they are playing y'know. It's a damn sight better than making uninformed opinions, but most parents want some kind of poor substitute for a parent or a babysitter, usually in the form of TV but woe betide if there is anything that might corrupt their poor little baby. People like that really irritate me.

So it's all right to have shows like CSI and Criminal Minds, but nobody can defend video games.
