Part you hate of a game you love.

Games. We love 'em. Even in the festering pit of jaded hatred that is this forum (and no offence meant, this is my favourite forum on the citadel/ the internet), we all have games that we love. Whether or not we sit upon a mountain of beloved games or keep a firm allegiance with only one, we all have games that are near and dear to our hearts.

But it's highly unlikely that we love every last thing about it, so, Escapists, combining bile AND love into one happy thread, I ask you, what is your most hated part of your most favouritest game? Leave more than one example if you wish!

Example #1: Mass Effect. No, it's not the Mako, I actually don't mind that little bastard (though the whiplash must be immense), for me, it's planet Feros. The visuals are dull and uninteresting, browns and dusty greys, the music is dreary, the characters have no personality beyond "we don't want to leave this colony despite the suicidal dangers of staying here" and the last boss of it goes on for way, way too long.

Example #2: Abe's Exoddus - Nekrum Mines. Probably due to the fact that I didn't have a memory card as a kid, I've just played that part way too much compared to the rest of the game.

Oeilvert from FF9, not particularly hard or anything, I just find it inconvenient.

As well as the Forest (I forget the actual name) from Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicle, I've repeated that bit so many times that I'm sick of it.

Those demonic walls in Okami.

You have to headbutt them to reveal their weak points, but you only have a few seconds to memorize them before you can use the Celestial Brush and mark them. This isn't so much of a problem if there's only 5 weak spots, but some walls have like 12 of them.

I fucking hate those things.

I love Mask of the Betrayer, but the Skein level in that game is just torture. Not only is it a huge maze and the pathfinding for your characters somehow becomes much, much worse but there's an annoying omnipresent voice in the background, saying the same 5 lines over and over again. Ugh.

The excessive "are you sure?" windows in Valkyria Chronicles.

The English dub of just about every JRPG ever.

I adore Final Fantasy VIII, but I hate the weapon system ¬¬ I prefer to buy or acquire my weapons rather than item hunt to build them. Also, the battle system could've been better, but was not, per se, bad.

Literally all of Condemned: Criminal Origins.
One of my favourite games ever, and yet I just can't be arsed playing any of it again, doesn't seem fun to me anymore.

This ^

It's so annoying that I still remember it even if passed around 6-8 months since the last time I played DA:O.

Blitzball in Final Fantasy X.

I'm sorry but it sucked. The concept of it was cool and I enjoyed its cinematics like in the opening but the actual playing of it sucked.

Fatal Frame 2. Kiryu House, also known as the one with the dolls.

...they're coming out of the walls, man...I still get nervous in tight corridors.

Fallout New Vegas: Not the glitches, never really run into them. Its the fact that so many quests in that game contradict each other. So many quests involving Mr. House that the pressure makes me cry.

Mass Effect:
That despite the first one having very reasonable and fair representations of non sexualized female characters, the games since then have been becoming less and less mature about it. Including recently making the most practical and ordinary of the girls of Mass Effect (Ashley Williams) into a spandex wearing supermodel.
It's not enough to ruin the game, or Ashley (who remains my favorite lady in Mass Effect), for me but it does annoy me.

Halo 3:
Not enough Arbiter, after having a great role in the second game he gets reduced to 'alien sidekick' despite being far more interesting and dynamic then the actual protagonist and having far more potential for story.

Gears of War 2:
Ben Carmine had more charm and likeability then all the other cast members and was on his way to becoming the emotional heart of the story... then he died.

Bulletstorm:
The red color spattering my face when I try to charge messes up my attack plans. Plus, the plot can't decide whether it wants to be silly or serious and keeps leaping between the two in a very strange way.

Otogi: Myth of Demons:
Time limits suck.

Psychonauts:
Difficulty level reaches the point of unwavering frustration, eventually leading to sputs of fury and screaming during the final level.

Saint's row 2:
Driving sucks.

Portal:
There isn't much in the way of genuine replay value.

Oblivion:
Voice acting is laughably bad.

Fable:
Becoming more and more shallow as they continue to put emphasis on the relationship aspect of the game that doesn't ultimatley matter in any way, shape or form.
Having a wife is a burden in this game, not a joy.
Also for god's sake, get RID of the 'job' mechanic!

Dead Space (1 and 2):
Clunky controls and relying far too heavily on shock surprise scare moments that get far too predictable.

Batman Arkham Asylum:
The script is painfully cheesy at points.

Prototype:
Despite having a huge variety of powers and skills and other crazy tricks up his sleeve, all Alex Mercer does is the same basic missions over and over again. Kill, escort, steal, kill some more etc.

Fallout 3:
Had no idea I wouldn't be able to keep playing the game after I finished the campaign.

Fallout: New Vegas:
Missions take to long and when I played it, it was glitchy.

Just Cause 2:
Tutorial sucks

Bioshock:
A great artistic game with steller writing and brilliant atmosphere, but the level where you have to escort the little sister was awful.

Condemned: Criminal Origins - the 3 jump scare cutscenes (I hate them, because the whole rest of the game is a good horror, without jump scares)

I've noticed that too - when I saw that picture of her plastered in make up and apparently having grown a few cup-sizes I wasn't particularly impressed.
Fortunately
I left her to die on Virmire (I let Kaidan live for good behaviour when compared with Carth Osoni), so I'll have Kaidan to deal with... cue a new screenshot release of him sporting a six-pack and a banana hammock...
