I personally shit red, white, and blue bald eagles while saluting the american flag and singing the national anthem. XD

Just kidding! Actually, people who do this annoy me, a lot. Especially when they're teachers. I actually had a teacher say that "America has the world's best system of government." Um, no, it actually doesn't. for instance, I have yet to meet someone who thought the electoral college was a good idea. And we take entirly too long to elect someone.

Ahem... actually it was us Icelanders that were the first Europeans to reach America.
Leif Eirikson born in Iceland, son of Eirik Raude (Eric the Red) and Tjordhil - Norwegians

I'm not proud to be American, as I've never did anything as an individual to make myself proud. Why do you feel good about what other people who lived a long time before you did?

His whole crew was born in Iceland. The man that discovered America and TOLD Leif where it was was Icelandic and his crew was also Icelandic.

Sorry to anyone if I seem hostile about this I'm really not.

I for one is not proud of being Norwegian, I am proud of what some fellow Norwegians have done.
I like living here, but I'm really getting tired of right-wing conservatives - it's sort of growing in Norway.
As other Norwegians have mentioned earlier; we could, we should do more to help others less fortunate.
I know it is a somewhat cliché, but it's just my humanistic ways.
I really don't see a reason for being nationalistic, there is not much to be proud of, except for good fortune.
Fortune is not really something to be proud of either.

Well just my pennies.

Doesn't matter, I just meant that Leif was practically Norwegian, and since Leif is often credited the discovery of America thus a mix. But I don't really care, we all know Leif wasn't the first to go there. No worries, I don't find you hostile.

I wouldn't call myself a patriot, but I like the fact that I was born in Serbia. There are some things that make me feel good about living here, but most of the time it sucks :/ Aside from that, I despise human race, so that kind of ruins the idea of patriotism somehow

I'm proud to be an Aussie. I live in QLD though, so I don't think I would be wrong to say that more pride goes into State of Origin than anything else.

Iceland was once part of Norway.
You are our children. We love you <3
We were never a part of Norway we were two nations under one king. Besides long before that happened we had discovered America and also we had a habit of killing your royalties.

*Facepalm* Yes you where. Before becoming an independent country.
The first people to travel to Iceland where vikings from Norway.
Then after a while some of them decided to stay, and Iceland was born!
Well, apperantly some Irish monks came first, but they left again.

Dont know about that killing royalties thing. Or why you brought it up.
The people coming from Norway were Chiefs that were leaving Norway because of the king (can't remember his name) that was uniting Norway. The chiefs that left Norway never acknowledged him as their king so when in the new country they were independent from him ergo not part of Norway.

Also the killing part: Patriotism.
I see. Well you where still under us from 1262 to 1918.

Patriotism is about loving your own country, not hating (or killing members of) another one.
We went under danish rule at the same time you did (don't really remember which year exactly ) and we didn't kill you out of patriotism I mentioned the killing out of patriotism.
The Danish started ruling you the same time they started ruling us.
Then when they "let us go" they "forgot" to give Iceland back to us. Or was that Greenland? Or both maybe.

Now lets stop this. This is not what this thread is about.

I think America is a tad obsessively patriotic cos its only a couple of hundred years old.

And with flag burning - I really couldn't care less if someone burned my flag, well come to think of it, its their flag cos they went to the trouble of buying it

If I had been alive during the revolutionary war, I'd be fighting, if I had been around when slavery in America was still accepted by the majority, I'd be fighting, and the next time someone threatens mine or my friends freedoms, I'll be fighting. With the gun, currency, or word I'll fight for each and everyone of you. I love my country, I love humanity. I wave my flag proudly, and I know that if push comes to shove you can be damn sure I'd be killing to keep us free. But, I have a strong feeling that I'm just that type of person. Put me in any country and I'd be fighting just as hard to bring every liberty that I know to those who don't yet know it.

I'm the one picketing against some government policy by waving a flag. I'm the one who wants you to scream your opinion at me, and I want you to know that as I draw breath I'll continue to make sure you can get mad at me when I say the complete opposite. There is no other ideal higher then liberty for every single human on this planet.

Wow, I sound crazy. Awesome.

Why are you proud to be whatever nationality you are?
Personally I'm proud to be British because of some of the great people this country has made, like William Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, Richard the Lionheart and Winston Churchill.
I thought Richard the lionheart was French. And William the Conqueror right?.

I'm not good at history, actually i'm crap at most things, so correct me if I'm wrong.
Dear old William the Conquerer only conquered england.
He was a Norman (descendant of viking settlers in Normandy).

OT:
Yeah, I'm proud to be Norwegian.
Lets see:

* We give out the Nobel Peace Prize.
* Our glorious history, with them vikings and all.
* Edvard Grieg and Edvard Munch.
* All that delicious oil in the north sea.
* Our stunning nature, specially the fjords.
* Our continued dedication to socialism.
