PAX East: Wil Wheaton To Give Keynote Speech

Wil Wheaton will be delivering the keynote address at PAXEast in Boston this March. Here's hoping he appears as Ensign Wesley Crusher.

At PAX Prime 2007, Wil Wheaton took the stage in Seattle and entertained the crowd with his references to games of bygone days and allowed gamers to take pride in their hobby with the rallying cry, "Don't be a dick!" It was announced today that he is returning to PAX, this time the Eastern edition in Boston, Massachusetts on March 26th-28th. Wheaton will be delivering the keynote address, and will undoubtedly expand upon his gamer cred with another stellar speech.

A child actor in the 80's, Wheaton first drew national attention when he starred in the film Big Bang Theory [http://www.amazon.com/Stand-Me-Special-Scott-Beach/dp/B00003CXIP/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1279748562&sr=1-1]), and appearances at, well, gaming conventions.

"We've always considered Wil as the keynote speaker for PAX, so it's only appropriate he kick off the first PAX East," said Robert Khoo of Penny Arcade. "Wil is one of us. We accept him. Wil speaks to all gamers, from the console jock to the keyboard fanatic to the pen-and-paper devotees."

Several Escapist staff members are psyched to go to PAX East, and we will be providing a plethora of coverage of all that goes down at the event, including Wheaton's speech. Our esteemed E.I.C., Russ Pitts, will even be moderating a panel at PAX East called "The Death of Print" covering the rise and fall and rise of print media/game journalism with Jon Davison (GamePro), Chris Dahlen (Kill Screen), Jeff Green (EA.com) and Julian Murdoch (freelance).

See you there!

Hehe, I'd never even heard of Wil Wheaton until Big Bang Theory. That was a good episode. :)

Shame PAX is in America, I'd love to go one day...

I'll also be appearing on a panel called "Everything you always wanted to know about video game journalism (but were always afraid to ask) (and we didn't really want to tell you, anyway) (because some of it is kind of embarassing) (but we will tell you) (because we're awesome)." No, seriously. :)

Ok, the actual name might end up being a bit shorter than that.

But that would be such an awesome name (although it's a bit excessive on the brackets)(I mean, it wasn't really required, commas are perfectly good)(Although brackets are pretty awesome, I have to admit).

Could be interesting, unfortunately I'm english born and bred.

He is quite an excellent speaker (I attended PAX 09) (yes I got really flat sick for a week) (no it wasn't swine flu) and people lined up for HOURS ahead of time (me included) to ensure getting a seat. :)

Couldn't care less for Wheatie..and there's two Ls in Will. However PAX is always cool.
Except that in this case, his name actually is spelled with the one "l"

Anyway I'm now even more stoked about the fact I'm going to PAX East, though the odds of me getting a seat for his keynote given the expo being sold out are probably really slim.

The crowd seemed to be enjoying the speech and it's good to see little Wes Crusher making good.

P.S Can someone please fill me in on the "brown shirt" comment?

Good to know he is doing well after TNG!
But after all, with all that future knowledge blogging about technology is easy ;-)

If it's anything like trying to get into see him at PAX09 the smart folks'll lineup as soon as the doors open. It was friggin ridiculous trying to get into see him speak, so much so I didn't get in despite trying an hour ahead of time to lineup. If he's coming to PAX10 I'll definitely hit his line early, from what I've seen on YouTube he's pretty funny.

Doesn't stop me from putting in another L..
"oh I want to be different..so I'l just remove one L from my name."

Please. If he wants to be taken seriously he would use the full version of his name-William.

Being born a William,I disapprove of Wheatie using just the one L.
