Funny. That pretty much sums up 80% of my interaction with Steam. Want to contact customer support? Create separate account. Send them a mail. Wait 3 days for response that asks You for additional details. Send the details. Wait another 3 days for next e-mail. Fun!snagli said:Tell me, have you ever eaten a banana?
Only when you take a bite it turns out it's made of plastic.
And it's filled with poo.
And if you ask the guy you bought it from he just says "You bought it, it's your problem now".
If you have ever done that, then there's no need to repeat it by using Origin.
Oh. New game out! Let's buy it! Oh not available in my region, even tho it's on shelves in B&M shops and requires Steamworks to run. Great. Why have digital distribution if I have to buy boxed?
Oh. A discount. From 49 euro to 29 euro. You know... it's still more expensive than at local B&M because 29 euro is average price for new game in Poland. Because Valve refuses to use local currency.
As proved by tech-savvy people. The file scanning is limited to certain folders that contain data about installed games. It's mostly badly optimized and it doesn't even read the files unless the file is important for the software to run. Just scans the names and filepaths.DrSpoy said:I think you might be wrong here. its not because its not "our beloved steam" its because of that whole scare about it digging through your files. Its also the fact we have to get another program on our computer (possibly just for one or 2 games), and the fact that its practically forcing us to get it to get some of the new EA games. Just my opinion, at least they could've done a much better job of just announcing it and making sure they have a decent amount of sales.
Variation = Good. Forcing us to get something because you want to compete = bad
As for forcing the software..could say it about every game that requires Steamworks to work. I didn't get it because I wanted to play Valve game. I didn't get it because I wanted to. I got it because a game by third-party company forced it on me.
Still cheaper than steam tho. Yeah, my local retailers charge me less because pretty much every retailer in Poland gives about 5-10$ discount if You order through their website. But it means I either have to take a bus to the shop or pay for delivery so all in all compared to Origin i save maybe 2$ on new games. Older (6 months+) is different story of course.bahumat42 said:origin charges more than retail and online retailers, i saved about 36% by going through game uk than using their service. Keep your eyes peeled on other places for savings.Keava said:I'm not using it much, but i must say their customer support is 10 times faster than Steam. The few times i had to contact them to fix my order i got in chat with the rep in 2-5 minutes and they fixed my issues right away.
Plus, as opposed to Steam, EA let's me pay in my currency, which means 30-50% cheaper games.
