Pearl Harbour in video games

So theres always one thing that confused me is that some very well known Historical events such as The attack on Pearl Harbour rarely feature in games. I am aware that Pearl Harbour is actually in a few games but it's not very popular and I've yet to see it feature in many games. It would make an amazing set piece have to run around avoiding bombs and watching everything around you collapse as you try to run to safe area. It would be an emotional thing and would make you hate the Japanese for doing this. It won't be completely irrelevent to the story though as it caused America to join the Allied forces in WW2.

So what I'm basically trying to say is that WW2 game developers have missed a good chance for a cinematic moment and I quite surprised there aren't many perhaps any FPS's that have tried this.

So in terms of discussion I'd like you lot to say what events in the world that you are suprised haven't been made into a game and you could also try to answer my question too if you like.

EDIT: Ok I kinda asked for people to say what historic events people wanted to see not what games featured Pearl Harbour :S

Pearl Harbor: Running around, shooting at airplanes, running around some more.

It would only be a very pointless scene that wouldn't be very necessary. At least that is my take on it. It felt pointless in Rising Sun.

Game and Cinema are two different things. When they meet bad things happen. That's why there are very few games of that point in history.

Plus all you Americans want to do is shoot nazis, you forget about the Japanese.

Was gonna say, I distinctly remember a MoH game having Pearl Harbor. Wasn't sure which one though. Pacific Assault makes sense :p I assume this game [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlestations:_Pacific] has Pearl Harbor in it as well, but I've not played it.

Medal of Honor:Rising Sun had Pearl Harbour. MoH:RS also sucked. So I guess that's why there isn't a lot of Pearl Harbour levels.

*Reading OP carefully* Ah, I see. Well, has stalingrad been in many games? It would be fucking epic. Could even be it's own open world game. Also, the battle of Kursk would be an epic tank level. 6,430 tanks, 1,522,500 soldiers involved, after all.

Putting Pearl Harbour into an FPS is a good idea, but it would only ever act as a Prequel or the Tutorial mission as it is America's first action in the war. Unless the game had already started with you playing as a British, French or German soldier in France, there's very little a game designer can put into a Pearl Harbour level without overwhelming the player.

Plus the whole level would just be a soldier scampering about a ship, wildly shooting at aircraft. Great for a tutorial when you need something big to shoot at, but kind of uninspiring when the previous level you were sniping Nazis.

It's been done in "Battlestations Midway" and "Battlestations Pacific", (and done well I might add) but they weren't exactly FPS's. In the first one, you were an American controlling a PT Boat trying to shoot down as many planes as possible. In the second one, you were a Japanese pilot trying to sink American battleships, plus they make you the one ordered to sink the USS Arizona.

This is a bit (a lot) irrelevant but is your avatar from Eddworld or something because I recognise that guy.

Thanks for the responses and I can see why it isn't featured in games... Now is there anyone that wishes for a historical event to happen in games.

A bit late to respond, sorry, but... you serious?!
Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain, all COD games, Metal Gear Solid games and all.
Not exactly bad things, are these?
Also, The Movies?

Hell. I don't know.
Umm, you know what? I'd love to see the Napoleon Wars realised in an FPS.

UGH NO.

We don't need major historical events in video games, mostly because it will be impossible to portray them neutrally.

That's the worst freakin' idea ever. As if the world doesn't have enough hatred and xenophobia as is.

Um, I'm not quite sure if you're trolling here but I'll bite. Call of Duty's Stalingrad sequence has to be one of the greatest set pieces in FPS history, at least it set a new bar in FPS story-telling. If you haven't played it, go get it now, everything still looks great despite it having been so many years. I'm fairly sure COD2 or the expansion pack for COD1 also had the battle of Kursk where you serve in a tank, but that was more of an intermission than a serious thing.

Seriously, go get those three:
Call of Duty
Call of Duty: United Offensive
Call of Duty 2

OT in general:
I'm all for doing historical events as long as you're still allowed some freedom in controlling your character's actions. FPS recreations of big battles is one thing because it gives you tactical freedom. What would be much more fun is an RPG that gives you strategic and moral freedom. What I would love is an adventure game/RPG set in pre-Imperial Rome where you get to decide whether to join the conspiracy to murder Julius Caesar or to stop it. Really, if presented correctly, you could sympathize with either side.
