So I have FINALLY got round to finishing ODST on the legendary difficulty. There's something I don't get. Either it's a plot hole or non-canon.

Just in case[spoiler:] So, the end of the story breaks down to you rescueing a covenant engineer. Now if you complete it on legendary you get an epilogue, which is set "One month after drop"... as in one month from the beginning of ODST or the middle of Halo 2s story when the covvie carrier jumps in the middle ofthe city. In this epilogue, Seargant Johnson walks in & has a chat with the engineer. The same Johnson that gets killed by Guilty Spark towards the end of Halo 3 "Send me out with a bang" (awesome last words)[/spoiler]

So the beginning of Halo 3 is over a month after the middle of Halo 2 right?

Sorry if this isn't really worth a full thread. Also please don't start flaming "Another dam Halo thread". I am genuinely curious about this.

I don't understand what the issue is. If this epilogue is set at the same time as Halo 2, and Sergeant Johnson dies at the end of Halo 3, then why can't he be in the epilogue (which is set before he dies)?

here's how i see the timeline in halo...
Halo reach
halo 1
ODST
halo 2
and
halo 3

i say this because at the end of halo 2 you're in a crashing ship the beginning of halo 3 you're jumping from a crashing ship also i think ODST in in the middle of 2 because in halo 2 the elites join you but in one part of ODST you see a bunch of dead elites and say "must be a family feud" or something along those lines

ODST as far as I get it is kinda Halo 2.5 - 3 period of time.

But If you have played Halo 2, which I assume you have, The Chief & In Amber Clad chase the carrier, have a bit of a scrap on delta halo, flood rears it's head then the chief scarpers back to earth on the forerunner ship.... All seemingly in a very short period of time.

Honestly I can't even remember how Johnson & Miranda Keyes got back to earth.

Also, you play 2 roles (Chief & Arbiter)in Halo 2 which kind of halves the amount of time that passes.

Maybe I'm just nit picking here.

I'll just leave this here.

To help a little bit... yes. ODST ends on October 21st. Halo 3 starts on November 17th.

If you have any more questions, feel free to quote me or PM me :)

GAAAAAAHHHH!

I'm such a tool sometimes. I should really remember that the Halopedia exists!

Makes sense that the trip to Delta Halo could take several weeks. I forgot that slip space journeys are not exactly instantaneous.... even for the Covenant. Guess it just isn't really mentioned to much in the games.

Although, this of course would mean the battle for earth was also several weeks long. before Chief returned stowed away on the dreadnought.

Must have been some massive battles and of course millions of casualties on earth alone.

There were. By the end of the war, there were less accounted-for humans then we have today.

Clarify'd.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the epilogue is set just before Halo 3 begins. And yes, Halopedia is your friend. Halo fans + way too much time on their hands = best database on the universe you can find.

I assume you're referring to the stats given in the Besiarium booklet in the "Limited Edition" of Halo 3?

Personally I've never liked the population figures they've given in that, as the numbers they give don't seem to be accurate given what we know about certain species. For example, the planet Balaho, homeworld of the Grunts, is reported to have a population of only 320 million. This seems like an abnormally small number for a species that reproduces rapidly and supposedly suffers from such extreme overpopulation in peacetime that strict laws have to be imposed on their breeding. By comparison the number of Elites on their homeworld of Sanghelios is supposedly 8.135 billion.

Besides, the source freely admits there's room for error in the preface, stating "Records retrieved from alien systems cannot be verified except by cross-reference against our own records. The significant system-wide lull in record-keeping for many of these species invalidates much of the provable veracity of this information." Finally, it's strongly hinted that the book is written from a Forerunner AI's perspective, which casts doubt on the human population record of a measly 200 million (there are over 300 million people living in the United States alone nowadays).

That's why I didn't give a specific number and only stated "accounted for". Trust me, I know my Halo stuff :p

I do apologise I wasn't particularly clear with my OP..... or a not descriptive enough of my query.

I get that the end of ODST is before 3... I just didn't really get the amount of time between ODST and 3

Lets face it. It is never made clear that the chiefs jump mid halo 2 and the subsequent battles took several weeks.

Without looking into it, the games kind of indicate a couple of days at the most with the exception of ODST saying "a month after drop".

Thanks for your input :D
