Hello Escapists,

Tonight I discovered my pet mouse outside of his cage. He escaped today while I was at work and he's currently trapped in my room.

I rigged up a humane (mousane?) trap using a box and junk, but I don't think it's going to work. Any advice on how to catch him without hurting him?

PLEASE, ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Your mouse seems like more of an escapist than us... Whats his post count? :p

Seriously just block all exits and explore all small spaces, like under your bed and stuff.

I would go for the good old trap made up of a box, a stick, some string and a bit of food. But I guess you would have to make the stick really short so it goes down quick enough. Well, it works in the cartoons. Sometimes...

Peanut butter will lure any rodent in. That should be your choice of bait. I've caught multiple mice that way.

One time I trapped a mouse using peanut butter and my kitchen trash can. I laid the can on its side and put a cracker with peanut butter inside. The mouse went inside and I picked up the trash can. The mouse fell to the bottom and couldn't get out.

Then I released it outside later.

Mice love chocolate.

Put some chocolate in a jar and lure him inside, jam on the lid and take back to cage before oxygen runs out

The only thing harder to catch than a mouse, is a rabbit/

Hammers are very useful...
but if you really want to not hurt it...
Maybe a Rubber Mallet.
Sorry, I'm trying to remember what we used when mine escaped... I think it was the cat that caught it for us.
didn't physically hurt the mouse. it was a nice cat.

Sorry to say but you are pretty screwed. Mice can fit through a hole the size of a dime. Keep you eyes open and good luck.

If my rats disappear (let them out to play, but once in a while I can't find them to put them back) I leave the door to their cage open and they go back in by themselves because that is home. I don't know if a mouse would do that, but you can try leaving the cage on the floor with the door open.

Over time, your best bait is going to be water. There is no source of water in your room aside from his cage or whatever trap you lay out. He will get thirsty and take it

Clear the floor of your room and the floor of your closet and look for him in corners and in tight areas.

Get your room as silent as possible, then lay on the floor and listen for him rustling. That's usually how I locate my rats when I don't know where they are.

This is actually very true. Peanut Butter is your best bait. Not cheese.

Get a giant piece of cheddar cheese. Put the cheese out and wait for the mouse to come and eat it, then grab it.

Really? Why not? They are charming pets, like tiny dogs. I've trained mine to come when I call them, and they lick your face in greeting, just like a dog.
