Shivering Isles
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion expansion pack
System: Xbox 360
Type: RPG

To start off I would like to mention that when I first joined the escapist forum, I promised myself that my "Gone Gonzo" post would be about oblivion, and since I love to write this worked perfectly.

Feel free to make "Grammar Nazi" posts because they help!
And does anyone know how to resize pics for posting, or to center them!

Oblivion

Due to this being an expansion review I won't go into Oblivion related stuff. Like Combat and leveling. For those who don't know, Oblivion is a massive Single player RPG, and according to me, one of the best of all time! This review requires some Oblivion knowledge!

Shivering Isles

FEATURES
34 new quests (36 if you include none-journal quests)
1 Joinable Faction (Court of Madness)
30+ Hours of Gameplay from the Main Quest itself.
100+ NPC's along with 9,500 new lines of dialogue
40+ New Creatures
25+ New Spells
60 New Places to Discover
42 New Alchemy Ingredients

25+ New Books
5 New Sets of Weapons (Not counting Unique Weapons)
6 New Sets of Armor
10+ New Rings/Amulets
10+ New Clothing
The Expansion is adding 25% More to Oblivion (In terms of land mass)

Story

Shivering Isles starts off by when you load up your normal Oblivion Game the next time wait/sleep for 24 hours you will receive a new journal about a strange portal to another world. It turns out it is the portal to the lands of the Daedric Prince of Madness Sheogorath's world. The world is divided into 2 types of crazies. Maniacs, crazy happy people who are dumb. Or Dementics, sad, cynical people. The plot revolves around the Sheogorath looking for a champion that can save his realm from a great devastation that happens at the end of every era. Which so happens to be....NOW!

During the course of the main plot the player will fight the Infamous Gatekeeper, solve a religious mystery, fight to keep the place crazy, and get some great perks

Trust me when I tell you the main story is reason to buy the game itself

Side quests

Oblivion is know to have some great side quests, ones that surpass the main plot, but while that's not the case in this expansion, the side quests are still barrels of fun, Side quests include Helping a man commit suicide, reconstructing a fallen foe, becoming the duke of your people, solving investigations and much, much more!

Shivering Isles Geography

Shivering Isles is a major expansion adding lots of places for the explorer to go. As you can see by the added Landmass

Weapons

This is the only category Shivering Isles falls short in. The main 2 piece of armor you get are the Madness and the Amber armor, which I feel look stupid

Madness on left, guars in middle, Amber on right

Luckily theirs lots of other weapons around like Dawn/Dusk Fang, easily the coolest weapon in the game, and one that you get in the coolest mission evar!

Actually 1 sword, changes night and day

Voice acting

The voice actors who play the major roles in the game are delicious, Sheogorath sounds like the boss he is, and every sentence he says is pure gold, and his servant Haskil speaks in a grim dull tone, the exact opposite of his boss

Sheogorath and his palace

Usind Arguments

I know this is more of a rant of how great this game is, but if you haven't played it you're missing out. Oblivion players will feel that special Oblivion Feeling that you had when you first crawled out of the sewers and looked into the beauty that was this game.

Rent, Buy, Set on fire

If you have Oblivion, you need this expansion, its pure genius

MADNESS!!!

Bitching
I wish Bethesda had made the Heretics play a bigger role in the plot

Well, thats my gone gonzo post, hope I get some replies. Anyway, The escapist fuckin rules!

Happy Easter

(Im Greek Orthodox, our easter is today!)

Too much pictures!!!!

A few layers of text would be ok. Is the game buggy? Is there one special character? What pissed you off?

A little too straight to the point but a not bad review .

Congratulation of joining the Gonzo race. Keep things clean. You're a gonzo now. You have to give the example.

A little more about Oblivion and Shivering Isles in there.

I have had the Dawn/Duskfang glitch so be sure you have a saved game set aside. I have lost it before in one version of the glitch but now I have 2 copies of the sword and they do not always shift anymore. But I fear to sell one in case the game then removes both from my inventory.

On the upswing: if one of them runs low on charges I can just switch out the weapon for the other which still has them. This cuts down on those fearful in-battle moments when you run out of weapon charges and find you have used up all or nearly all of your soul-filled crystals used to power the enchantments on the weapons.

So the glitch can be nice but remember to be a bit cautious.

I know, I limited them in my next review. Also, I learned to edit size so I might come back and redo this

Is it weird that I never really noticed that was a Dark Seducer till there >.>
And the DLC for Oblivion is much better than Fallout 3 since it was a huge new area rather than a lil' area that was over to soon.

I really like Shivering Isles. I enjoyed Oblivion, but I didn't find it amazing. I found both expansions amazing. They brought back (or I thought they brought back) the things that Oblivion ditched when it passed on from Morrowind. Which is the best game ever.

Those are actually part of the main quest, if I'm not mistaken
Great read, keep on with the sales pitches ;)

I think the Becomeing Duke is actually part of both?

At the end you are both Duke of ____ and Madgod, so its treated as a seperate fractions

I can't help but thinking that it's solely a part of the main quest, even though they are different factions. I guess it's up for interpretation...
Also, just to nitpick a tiny bit, you should add /Duchess to Duke, since your character can be female.

Your right. When I rewrite it later this week I'll be sure to add that
