Mmmmm..... BOOOOBBIIESSSS!!!.... that is all....

Okay joking aside... I can't really blame them, with piracy being as it is nowerdays they need to find a safer way to sell their game without it being copied.

Yet another company apologizing for including DRM. It they really have to apologize to their customers, maybe they shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

DRM doesn't prevent piracy and Steam's DRM is no exception. Companies are accepting DRM because they think they have no other choice, but where is the proof of this conjecture? There are some loud voices saying that DRM is a necessary evil, but none of them are willing to prove that it helps; instead, they dodge the question by saying that they have no other choice or they threaten to raise prices.

Maybe we have to enact stronger laws to deal with piracy. Maybe companies should consider lowering their prices or raising the quality of their products to encourage sales. Maybe they should be more honest with their wares, providing demos, trials, and return policies, instead of paying off reviewers, forcing restrictive license agreements, and devaluing used sales. If they were more considerate of their customers, maybe their customers would be willing to support them.

At the end of the day, this report is just another piece of DRM propaganda. They say DRM is a necessity, it's for our own good, it's their right and anybody who doesn't agree is a pirate and a thief. It's the same line of reasoning that was used against Communism and recently against terrorism. It's just another arms race and no matter who is winning, the paying customers are always losing. It isn't in our best interest; it's in their greedy self-interest and at our expense.

Awwww.... cheer up you mental hack. Don't you remember your audience for these games, you know, the ones that supported the franchise since the PSone era? Here's a simple hint.

Using Steamworks just because of the DRM, and you're likely to be very disappointed. But hey, at least it's not UbiDRM.

I don't see how that will protect it. Hell, I pirated portal a few weeks before it was free, and I could still open the steam overlay without running it through steam.

My biggest question about the game at this point is;
Is it a single player with co-op elements OR co-op with single player elements. To be honest, I hate forced co-op. I truly despise it at the same level as Ubisoft's Always On DRM.

Atleast Steam as DRM isnt a big hassle. And the game will be cheaper this way.

I must ask... is it being pirated because its so good, or because the TR series has been getting worse with each release, and players dont trust the title ?

Love how piracy is the catch all reason a title fails on the PC market, nowt to do with how crap the actual game may be.

BTW: Steam is no where near comparable to Ubisofts DRM measure, at least with Steam it wont kick you out of a game if the server drops mid game, and you can go to offline mode with SP games.
Nah, biggest issue with Steam is how its more pricer than physical media distribution for the same game at launch... I get most of my Steam games during the specials.

This game actually looks like a rather good adventure game. I'm pleased they decided to screw over horny adolescents who only play Tomb Raider because they wanna see some ass and tits. I like Steam, I don't mind their DRM, but it's not pirate proof as some people think.

MW2 is Steam only and is one of the most pirated games ever.
So I guess the answers would be yes to the first question, and no to the second one.

I think it's kind of cute that they think you can't pirate Steam games.

Seriously, game developers, Google is not that fucking difficult to use.

Having said that, I have mixed feelings about this upcoming Tomb Raider Lara Croft game. Angel of Darkness really killed the series for me, and I was one of those weird types who actually enjoyed playing Tomb Raider, and not just for the, uhh, assets.

That's just a little joke Ubisoft, I love you.
I really hope that was a joke. Otherwise you're part of the problem. ;)

I still maintain that Steam is a tolerable form of DRM only when the game is actually purchased via Steam. If they're using other channels (retail, other digital distribution) they really shouldn't be using SteamWorks. (Or at least, they should make it optional.)

It has always been my view that there is a core community of people who pirate games simply for the convenience of it.

Sure, some are poor, cheap, or children, but I for one like having the DRM-removed digital copies.

Steam is markedly more convenient than piracy, and as such there has been little to no reason to commit piracy since 2003.

What is it about isometric games that I love so much? This actually looks really intriguing.
