Using Steamworks because of piracy?
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Steam has been pirated through and through for years now, like any other DRM or anti-piracy solution.

Let me explain: I don't mind games using SteamWorks. I'm a VALVe fanboy and avid Steam user, so SteamWorks doesn't bother me one bit. But if you're gonna implement SteamWorks, do so because you want to make use of the framework it provides you with, not because of piracy.
That's like saying that you'll put another lock in your door, but you're still going to leave a copy of the keys under the flower pot outside, just in case. You're still going to get robbed.

Silly Devs. Steam games are just as easy to pirate as non-Steam games. If anything, it will just be more annoying for customers to get their hands on this game.

Dont steam releases get cracked same as everything else. Hell if Ubi can get cracked I am pretty sure just about anything can be. Also I haven't seen this much excitement for a Tomb Raider game since.. well ever! Really what?? Not that I have a problem with Tomb Raider its just a horrifically frustrating game. I have died more often falling in that game then Mario and I fall to my death a lot in Mario.

Steam's a tolerable DRM. No complaints here. As long as it's not like Ubisoft's retardedness go for it.

It's quite easy to pirate from Steam, they allow you to make a backup of a game, and all the pirates do essentially is "disconnect" it from steam. But you don't get any of the features of MP or whatever. It's actually a pain in the ass sometimes depending on how many steam integrated features they have in it. Most games however, steam is an afterthought.

It's better than Ubisofts constantly online DRM I suppose.

I thought it was being released on Steam more because the game is only a few hours long and isn't worth releasing as an actual full game?
A few hours is all you get anymore in a game that doesn't call itself an "RPG." There will still be a disc released, it just means you'll have to get steam to play it (like Half-life 2 or the upcoming Civilization.)

Just hope Steam is the only program you'll need.

Errr...

Because we were addressing the same issue and the way you've constructed your post made it seem to me as though you were not quite sure as to how useful the Steam actually is at preventing the piracy, and would maybe appreciate some feedback?

Sorry if that offended you.
Ok, this is weird xD

I'm not offended, just what you put had nothing to do with what I put - I'm guessing one of our posts has given the other the wrong impression.

Well at least when it cones to steam we know DRM there didn't suck
Assuming that the studio knows how to use steamworks, which is something rare these days among 3rd party devs. Creative assembly, insanity ward, ubishit, relic, paradox interactive and electronic arts are the reason steam has a reputation as broken piece of shit because they can't read the manual on how to implement it in their games.

Meanwhile, I will continue to contribute to their low sales by not giving a flying fuck about the entire ip.

But I'm probably going to get counted as a pirate because they can't wrap their head around the idea that somebody might not be interested in their game, so if I didn't bought it, I must have pirated it. Otherwise known as the whinetek method of collecting piracy figures, famous for somehow finding 60.000.000 pirates for a game with minimum specs that only about 10.000.000 computers had at that time.

People who pirate aren't even in the marketplace. Most of these people had no intention of buying the game anyways. Game companies should spend more time making quality games than worrying about piracy.

With the price of games today, don't they make enough money already!

Steam's DRM does make a difference. It's not so much that the game is impossible to pirate, as it's almost impossible to strip the DRM properly.

I uuhhh, have a friend, yeah that's it, who tried to pirate Half Life 2 back in the day. It was such a pain in the ass that I- I mean he- HE just ended up buying the game and applauding Valve's efforts.

Like, even if you got the game to launch it would be full of white textures. Or just randomly crash for no reason whatsoever. I assume progress has been made since then, but even other games I've heard of that have Steamworks just don't work properly when you try and pirate them.

Fortunately I have no interested in another Tomb Raider game, so I am largely unaffected by this news.
There is no problems with cracked steam stuff anymore.. It's just as easy as anything else

What I meant was that it was more of a DLC than an actual full game.

I have a 100% efficient method to stop everyone from pirating Lara croft latest game. They should make it freeware and release it on the torrents. That would teach pirates a lesson.
Ps.: Is it just me or the new Lara looks likes tourchlight meets prince of persia old games?
Ps.2: I'm not a fan of of LC au contraire even if they make it freeware i wouldnt download it... well maybe is they make it payyouware, and they pay an obsene amount of money... nah i wouldnt play that way either.

"Back in the day" explains it. I've seen plenty of cracked Steamworks games work just fine nowadays.

First reaction:

Holy crap. Lara croft has been whittled down to face-tits-ass-boots. They've done away with the uninteresting parts, it seems. This is what happens if you keep copying off your old drawings, guys.

Second impression:

Good luck breaking the vicious piracy circle. the co-op is a little interesting, I have to admit, but otherwise I don't really see the interest to even download this illegally, let alone pay for it.
