I was never a supporter of anti-copyright laws. Until just a minute ago.

YouTube took down the Bill Bailey stand-up routines for copyright infringement! Why? WHY?!?!?!

I honestly don't know all that much about european politics. Will one or two members in parliament be able to change... anything? Especially if they have a controversial view?

The big deal is that the party was only founded in 2006. 2 seats in the first 3 years is not shabby.
I can see this expanding each year.

I think their election was a result of reactionaries. I don't think it will take. But hey, that's just me.

Is it just me or do these guys seem like a mixed bag? From what I can tell, they have some really good ideas, but the abolition of patents? Really? I mean, the system has it's flaws, but it will in general reward those with creativity.

In practice it rewards those rich enough to copy paste somebody elses patent and get in approved faster by waving a bundle of cash, rendering the original a fraud.

How does getting rid of it change anything? Now those who are rich no longer have to pay anybody to do or make anything. At least a patent system requires 'stealing' to profit at someone else's expense.

See this is why you should have to take a compitence test to be able to vote. This is a one goal party who don't concentrate on real issues. I mean they basicaly voted in crime.

I wish i was Swedish, I would join in a minute. And no they just want to reduce the stranglehold that is copyright laws.

That's cool. Maybe they'll start to expand outwards from Sweden. But at least there will be somebody to lead the way.

They already have. It's just most prominent in Sweden. Also remember the German PP got enough votes for government funding, so it is spreading.

Yea, the Pirate Party is an international organisation, not a national phenomenon. I believe they have a presence in the states as well.

I'm loving the fact that the Pirate Party got in. I'm also loving the fact that I was listening to Alestorm when I found this thread. It's like double aweseomeness.

I strongly agree with their ideas on changing patents. The fact that people have tried to patent parts of the human genomoe is disgusting, and that they have succeeded in patenting other living organisms more so. Besided, patents in biological sciences only hinder research by forcing people wanting to work on something to wade through miles of red tape and pay huge fees.
And patents on medicines are literally killing people in the Third World.
