Pirating Getting Worse?

First I see MW2 leaked on torrent sites days before it was even released and just now I have seen leaked versions of Assassins Creed 2 and Left4Dead 2 for the Xbox. So is it just me or is pirating getting worse for the 360 or have games always been leaked before release? Also how are these releases getting out so early?

They always have been man, it's nothing new. Piracy has been running rampant across all platforms for years, the only one I've not seen pirated from here to kenya is the PS3. No doubt that will get cracked when blu-ray disks/burners are more affordable.

It's exactly as bad, I imagine. Anti-piracy measures don't hurt pirates, so nothing is really deterring software counterfeiters right now. Sure, there are a couple of court cases, but they're not hitting the black markets in poorer countries who make massive bank off of piracy.

Dunno but bet you 90% are actually viruses
This was on a private tracker site, I'm as sure as I can be they are legit (without actually downloading them myself)

MW2 is getting pirated because everyone hates Activision at the minute.

It's not right (I despise pirating being a PC gamer, it's the excuse of many companies not to support us) but considering a totally unnecessary price hike, a removal of online features, a dead short campaign and general beyond-belief-arrogance, I'm finding it hard to sympathise.

MW2 landed early because stores ignored the street date, but the other ones aren't even shipped, so they're all but certainly fake.

Occasionally games get leaked by unhappy employees, or stolen, but that's really rare. As for piracy getting worse, it's not, but publishers and developers are getting ever louder in their coomplaints about it and ever more ham fisted in their attempts to beat it.

Most DRM's don't harm the pirates in the slightest, even Nintendo multi million pound DSi upgrade lasted 12hours before it was busted. The majority of 'anti piracy' measures are designed to increase control over the paying customer, piracy just happens to be the convienient justification.

Not suprising in the least games get leaked weeks beforehand all the time, personaly I dont care it was pretty apparent if you mod a console with an online component that you are going to get cut eventualy. As for how thye get out early dunno probably some guy who works for a publisher getting abit of money on the side making backhand deals.

On piracy sure I do it older games, games that I would buy second hand if the sellers were not being utter arseholes (no your not getting £80 for Shadow of the collosus you tit) dont feel guilty if developers would not see a penny and I'm not buying that your hurting the industry crap either my 156 games, £1400 gaming pc and three consoles would dissagree with you. Nor am I buying that No-CD cracks are bad if I dont want my game disks damaged thats my damned buisness its purley a move to stop the second hand market.

The thing is anti-piracy measures don't hurt the pirates, they hurt the gamres who actually bought the real thing.

Every game producer should do the same thing Batman: AA did so that every pirated version would be unplayable without triggering their suspicion, at the same time giving away the pirates' identities by asking for help about the so-called "bug" in the game.

Leaks are often tracked back to people who work at the places where the discs are manufactured. There are other ways like review copies and stock sitting in game stores for weeks waiting for a "street date" when they can sell them.

I think that there is normally more piracy on consoles as time goes on as people get better at breaking the protection and more people with less to spend on games get the hardware.

This is actually a topic I feel pretty strongly about. Personally, when I buy something, I feel that since it's mine I can do with it what I wish. If that means burning a copy for a friend, fine. If that means ripping a dvd for a good pal, fine.

If that means offering it as a torrent, fine. It's mine. I support pirating software just like I support downloading mp3s. This doesn't mean I don't pay for games though. If something is great then I'll buy it, and especially if it's a small release from a smaller company who I feel I need to support.

edit

Case in point; Torchlight. If you're torrenting Torchlight you need to get punched in the face. Show your support.

Just wanted to add that Gamestop apparently has a whole process for breaking street dates by convincing other stores with idiot workers that the street day is earlier than it is, thereby allowing GS to break street date as well, since "the other guy did it first."
