Planetside WAR! Call to Arms!

I am not sure how they are setting up the contest for you but I have some ideas that would make the game fun for you guys. There is no way that you guys can play this game properly with 200 people and your own server or a locked continent. Once you factor in that not everyone will be logged in at the same time, time zone differences, the fights will be unbalanced and way to small for this games scale.

I would recommend you ask Sony that you guys are able to play on Gemini with the general public and have Sony and your spokesmen set up specific dates and times for compitition against one another (weekends work well). The CSR then could be online at the time needed and teleport you all to Old Oshur (old continent no longer in use, sadly) and have your battles there.

The game is set up so each continent can hold 130 people per empire or 390 people total. The game is designed to be played at this level of population due to its massive scale. If you guys try to play on a private continent with a dozen online for one empire 15 on another and 20 on the third, you are not experiencing the game for what is meant and miss out on the MMO part of the MMO game. If they put you into your own locked area and not let you play with the general public, you mine as well just have your compitition playing counterstrike because this game is too big for that and you guys will think the game sucks as a result; it would be the same as playing WoW with only 30 other people online total for both Ally and Horde combind.

I'd like to say to anyone who entered the contest, download the game ahead of time. I just started the game up and it had to update, the current estimated time is 1 hour 39 minutes. This game will take a while to update, just a warning.

I would not recommend using Vista at all for this game, even if Sony says it will work. This is a DX8 game and Vista does not support DX8. An Example is, I can get upwards of 500-1000 fps in sanctuary with XP and get a max of 30-40 with Vista. Once you go into a large scale battle, Vista will struggle so much that your high end computer will be giving you 10-15 fps at most. I would HIGHLY recommend installing XP on a partition or however you choose to do it, if you want to play Planetside.[

I tend to agree with you. I'm going to test it on my comp this weekend and report but from what I've been told, Planetside doesn't run to well on Vista.

That would suck. The only machine that has a graphics card in immediate reach is Vista laptop. >:|

Well this is annoying, been coming here and reading the articles for some time then Yahtzee popped up and I've been enjoying that and then suddenly Planetside advertising. I nearly died from shock, SOE putting in effort to promote Planetside is shock.

I'm a 4 year Vet of PS, 80'000 kills or so many top level chars and in the Outfit which won the Outfit wars. I'm guessing this will be like the Outfit Wars, you will be dumped on Old Oshur. That was a cont which was taken off the game but is still on the servers so devs can pull you one by one over to it like they did for the outfit wars. Shame I'm at Uni now else I'd have signed up but PS is blocked at Uni so I'm shtuck, pain really miss that game.

I dont think they'll be like outfit wars, I'm hoping for full on ingame play, being that 75 people from all time zones (quite likely half from america, half from australia, and a sprinkling of europeans) means planning a set event at a time would be difficult.

Holy crap, I LOVE Planetside. That was my favorite MMO until it died off due to SOE's neglect. I registered just so I could enter Hope we win fellas!

Hey guys, if you want to get the 14 day free trial of Planetside, there's still a way to do so. I had to do a bit of searching to find this out, it's too bad SOE doesn't advertise this as it could have gotten a bunch of people hooked.

Got to http://launcher.station.sony.com/ and download the Station Beta. Make a new account and log in, you'll have the choice to pick a bunch of SOE's games to try, just click on planetside and select the trial option.

Now get out there and start practicing as TR! RED OR DEAD!

Terran Republic now and forever my brothers. I hopeI get picked I have a lot of experance as a pilot and a hacker. Slipping into open zones at 3am when no one is on and hacking enemy bases as a lone wolf was kinda fun. I miss the old days and want to relive the exprance by making some VS And NC Tread pancakes.

Also on another note if I don't get picked, and they do give you guys a public server to make some red people fodder I would love the info on it. I was thinknig about reactivating my old account just to join in the hell that is to come.

I used to play this game on and off a few years ago. Dropping gens inside heavily contested bases as a cloaker was fun as hell. Sadly the last time I tried playing I discovered there were only about eight people total on werner.

Just to put this out there for the people planning to play the Certs that most of the top players use are generally the same, although they are based around solo play or small team co-operation rather than large scale fights...

Same certs I had that a lot of quick responce kill whoring players use:

Med
Engie
RExo
Medium Assault
Heavy Assault
Anti Vehicular [or Special Assault depending both have good MAX counter measures]
Mossie [Air Calvery: Scout - useful for quick responce and fast drop attacks]
Adv Hacking

I would reccomend that set-up to those who are infantry based, the main point would be to switch around Adv Hacking which costs 5 cert points in total for whatever you want. I used to add in Sniping and Combat Engineering or Adv Medical. Of course this set-up is only good for infantry based peeps rather and kinda concentrates on being a kill frenzy nutter but it works well in teamwork if you have people with similar set-ups [namely Mossie and HA or a MAX] and then you can support each other. Say you have the Adv Hacker, a Adv Med or two, a MAX unit and some other peeps with SA and HA load outs all with Mossies. You can drop on a bases back door, get to the spawns, hack everyones gear from the terminals and kill the spawns and all the while you have Adv Meds and when you get to the spawns and the Adv Hack hacks out gear you'll have MAX support and then you push to the Control Console [CC].

Its a quick responce tactic that works well.

These guys are going to be BR1, they cant even cert half of that stuff. Get a brain.
