Play as a Great White Shark in Multiplayer Game Depth

Depth is a new indie game set to release in November that pits divers against Great white sharks.

Now that shark week [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/shark%20week] has made you appreciate sharks and their natural abilities, it's time to throw away everything you've learned about them and play as one hunting down some humans. At least that's what you can do in Depth, a new game by developer Digital Confectioners.

Depth is an undersea multiplayer game that pits divers against sharks to determine who really is at the top of food chain (one guess to who it'll end it up being). As a deep sea diver your job is to collect treasure while fending off the player-controlled sharks lurking in the shadows. Divers will have a multitude of weapons to choose from and upgrades to use to better defend themselves.

Sharks will have their own advantage by being natural predators of the sea. Depth's Great white sharks are fast, agile, and have sharp teeth to tear their prey apart. The sharks will also have upgrades in the form of "evolutions" to go head-to-head with their human counterparts.

The game is set to release sometime in November on Far Cry 3 [http://store.steampowered.com/app/274940] to upgrade my wallet and weapon holsters so the probability of me doing well in Depth is pretty small. Strangely this trailer has also reminded me how close the words depth and death are.

Looks pretty awesome. I've been wanting a game where I play as a shark. The only one that comes to mind is Jaws: Unleashed. But as long as I get to play as a great white, I'm happy.

The title does sound familiar - heard of a game with the same name and similar premise (underwater fighting sharks) about three or four years ago. I think the guy that originally invented Killing Floor wanted to make that thing but originally planned it as Coop game, not competitive. No idea, if it's the same game but gone a different direction or just a coincidence.

I love the idea of these multiplayer "death match" games where one or more players gets to control the monster(s).

That being said I'm not going anywhere near this game because underwater levels in games give me the yips, precisely because of the inevitable big nasty thing that wants to eat you.

Great.

Now all those Mass Effect fans can learn, why the rest of the world fears the name "Mako" (assuming other shark species are available).

All I would want to do is go around attacking other sharks, ("Who's king of the sea now?! Ahahahahahahaha!!") both because the humans usually get the short end of the stick in these things and because underwater dogfights sound like fun. If the free weekend of Quarantine taught me anything, however, it's that most people playing as the monsters don't appreciate thinking outside the box by their teammates, more concerned with "winning" as the game defines it than having fun, even when the odds are overwhelmingly in their favor. Perhaps by rallying a bunch of zombies together and ordering them all to go stand in a fire.

Well it´s not very new, the development stoped one day, a sad day! Glad it´s back on track!

Umm... I don't know if I could ever play this game. I have the biggest fear of deep water and there are massive bloodthirsty, player controlled Great Whites swimming around in murky water.

I really like the concept but damn it I don't think I could stand playing such nightmare fuel...

I like the concept but that gameplay looks way too fast-paced, I'm guessing that was really speeded up? If not then it looks like it'd be more frustrating than fun...
