The PS2 was, by definition, my first console. And still is. I'd played on plenty of older consoles before, at my relatives or at my friend's houses, but we all know that's not exactly the same thing. My parents weren't big on games, especially my dad who described things like movies and certain television as "money wasting nonsense". So imagine how my goddamn surprise when on my birthday, I saw a big yest strangely beautiful box labeled as a PS2!
You wanna know what my first games was?
Lego Soccer Mania.
And I loved the shit out of it!
From there a beautiful relationship began. I didn't have many games, but that didn't matter. I loved em, the variety. One moment I was playing a brawler, the next an RPG, a racing game, a platformer, you name it! A few years back, while I was away, my brother sold a few of our PS2 games or threw them into the woods "just because". (Asshole...) But now that I know a bit more about this whole gaming thing, I think it's time I raided my local gamestop. The last one I know of that actually carries PS2 games. (Behind the counter, but still)
Wow just think for a second, so many companies and developers were started or at least noticed in part because of the PS2. So many new ideas were put on the table and exist even today. I get it, they can't just keep making this a console with no new games coming out, but this still kinda saddens me in an oddly happy sorta way. Ambivalence I believe it's called. Thank you, you big black monolith...
And God's speed you magnificent bastard!
