PlayStation Home Hits 10 Million Users

Sony has announced that 10 million PS3 owners have logged into Home since the service launched, and some may have actually done so more than once.

Sony's PlayStation Home has had its share of difficulties since it entered open beta a year ago - 25% return rate [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_214/6355-Home-Alone].

To help remedy the "lack of content" issue, Sony is opening the doors on two new in-game spaces, based on Naughty Dog's Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time. A third space, based on Evolution Studios' MotorStorm, is expected to open shortly - which is a bit strange given that MotorStorm came out in early 2007. Better late than never, I guess?

Sony will also be attempting to get people back into Home with its "Freemium" action game Sodium - possibly one of the silliest titles I've heard in a very long time (you might want to take it with a pinch of salt, that's all I'm saying). Sodium, a "an arcade-style shooter wrapped inside of an MMO framework," will be played inside Home and will have a heavy reliance on microtransactions. Come on, Sony, haven't you heard that too much sodium is bad for you?

Okay, I should stop now before I end up salting the earth with too many more bad puns.

Is it still full of retarded teenage guys who descend upon anybody with a female avatar to demand sex?

And people who think txt speak is a valid communication medium?

And people who rage quit at Chess after they bugger up in 3 moves?

And people who use dance moves to try and hump you?

And annoying adverts?

Maybe I will give Home another chance if they drop this "freemium" tomfoolery and just sell complete games on it like the do on PSN. I have tried micro-transaction driven games before, they are just too much hassle for me.

Well the service is pretty horrible... the fact they logged in more than once was definetly the big shocker here.

Is there some new standard for game names now? How is this name any more or less silly than, say, Oblivion? Or MULE?

Is turnabout fair play Mr. Funk?

Since I am a brand new PS3 owner (still enjoying that new console smell although I still haven't got my PS3 badge) I checked out home and gotta say what a mess. I left my apartment to be bombarded by text chat that I had no idea where it was coming from. Every space is designed to sell you crap for your avatar and apt. I did find a few fun little games though. Like in the R&C hub (but it took me a while to find the good game).

Anyways is there any way to get rid of it and get those GBs back? I lost 30 before installing a game :(

Whatever, just wash your hands.
in order for home to generate the return amount of users that sony is seeking, it will be giving everyone who logs onto hom 5 times a giant set of genitals, the 6th return will give uses a massive pair of breast to add to said genitals. Sony officials say "the move is to encourage people to hang out online all day and cyber constantly which is really all that the internet is good for"

Just press triangle on the Home icon on the main menu screen and it should say delete

There's a game named after a toxic chemicle of the Periodic Table [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Meltdown], does that make it any more or less silly?

Just playing Devil's advocate here :p

I have one thing I would like to ask the author of this article, is it 10 million PS3 owners or 10 million PSN users? The title and the article say two different things. This may sound a bit nit-picky but they are differant.

If there are 10 million PSN users, that doesn't mean they are all PS3 owners. Some of those PSN accounts may share the same systems. For an example my room mate owns our PS3 but I have a separate account on his system.

Phillip Glass would run away screaming at the sight of Home's minimalism.

Will that give me everything back? Because when I look at the space it says it is only taking up a few KB
