Hey, I've been a console gamer my entire life, always enjoyed them and have always had the "why have a PC when you need to upgrade every month" view. It recently occurred to me that PC gaming looks much better. But I've had the same computer since 2005 and it is really bad. Now when I say really bad. I mean REALLY BAD. I run counter strike source on lowest settings on 9fps with 11ms. Now I'm going to buy a new PC to run games. Since I have no idea about PC's in general, I'd like the escapist to tell me if this is an OK PC

I want to know if it could run Skyrim smoothly, BF3, Mass effect 2, and Borderlands.
Thanks guys.

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to PC gaming. But I can recognise that all of those numbers are bigger than my laptop's numbers. And my Laptop is pretty capable, so I say go for it.

That PC will kick the crap out of Skyrim, BF3, Mass Effect 2, and Borderlands.
For Mass Effect 2 and Borderlands, assuming you use a standard HD resolution (such as 1080p), you should get well over 60 frames per second on max settings.

Skyrim and BF3 aren't out yet, so I can't tell you anything for certain.

In the case of Skyrim, it's going to be a port of a brand new engine. That will probably mean bugs and performance issues on particular video cards, at least until the game and/or video drivers get patched.
On the subject of theoretical performance, that sort of depends what Bethesda decides to make their "max settings" as. If, for instance, max = rendering 20 times more objects than on an xbox, that could be a bit much. Most likely max settings will run smoothly.

On BF3, well, the PC version is flat out different from consoles, so if you're going to play on 64 player maps, you might not get 60 FPS on max settings.
I wouldn't worry too much, though. Max settings can be overkill these days, since you only really notice it if you're not moving much.

Also, that PC doesn't come with a screen, right?
On a high end rig, screen latency is often the culprit for poor performance.
While most monitors are ok, HDTVs can often cause enough lag to make games feel wrong.
