Hello everyone, my name is Shane aka GamesBrained. I have been reading and watching The Escapist content for a long time (basically since I discovered episode 4 of ZP). Don't know why it took me so long to join up onto the forums.

Anyway,
I don't know how I missed development on this game for so long! As the title suggests, there is a remake of Pokemon Gold and Silver for the PC (playable with keyboard or gamepad) which brings the whole world to life in 3D and allows you to play through the original game in 3rd or 1st person, but with certain upgrades to the experience. This experience is especially magical if you grew up around the Pokemon boom of the first two generations of games (as I had), or if you have just been waiting (like me) for a true 3D (not still overhead controlled camera like in X and Y) Pokemon game.

For your viewing pleasure, I played the game in its entirety (up to the post-Elite 4 Kanto content) and decided to make it my next review for my games show, GamesBrained. I hope that you will enjoy it as well, and for the curious, don't worry the video is not overly long (6 mins) and gets right to the point. I hope its a fun watch for you, and if you enjoy it or have suggestions, please feel free to contact me through here, my channel, or any other means.

Man, two people in two days... Is blatant advertising just gonna be a thing on this site these days? Nobody checks the freaking Code of Conduct anymore =3=

OT: Looks sorta eeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhh... Without the proper systems in place, I have a good feeling the game would be imbalanced and poorly executed. I wouldn't call myself very impressed.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by advertising. I did read through the forum rules to make sure I would be within the standard, and I checked again and still can't find anything unless there is something I'm missing. It seems pretty appropriate for the User Reviews forum. I'm not asking for subs or spamming, I simply spent a lot of my time to make this video on a game I think doesn't have enough attention.

As for the game, what kind of proper systems do you mean exactly? The game is exactly as balanced as Pokemon Gold and Silver were, although the game also uses newer fixes like later class types like 'Fairy' for Togepi and others. The only thing I can think about which I mentioned in the review is the auto-order switching, like when your pokemon faints it defaults to the next one in your order coming out. I don't think this adds any imbalance, because in terms of multiplayer everyone's own battle order is hidden from each other, so everyone goes in just as blind as each other. I think this is just something that hasn't been implemented in development yet, so for now it is just an oddity.

Anyway, please elaborate!

While I would love a full 3D Pokemon game, I can think of a few places in some of the games where not being able to see the area from above would be really confusing. Not that I don't love finding my way around a 3D environment of course, but I can see where it would get kinda annoying. Especially in some of the caves considering they are very maze-like.

It's a neat concept, and hopefully in the future we can get some real 3D Pokemon games on stronger handhelds along with remakes of the 2D and 2D/3D hybrid games.

Shit, I assumed this was not in user reviews, sorry XD I need to check that stuff beforehand >w<

To elaborate, if it really is as balanced... Guess I got nothing?

I actually found things to be less confusing. Perhaps in smaller dungeons like the lighthouse or Team Rocket headquarters where space is tight, but a zoomed out third person fixes all of those. The only thing I can say stopped me, which I'm not sure it would have been any better overhead, is the f**king Farfetch'd chase in Ilex Forest. But other than that it was all smooth sailing. :)

If you're curious at all, I forgot to mention in my post and in my review that the game is free. You can download it from their website at no cost, it pretty much has to be a non-profit game in order to avoid copywright issues.
