Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Dual Pack Saves No Money

The price of the Dual Pack of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire is the same as buying both games separately, but the combo comes with 200 potions.

Can't decide whether to buy Pokemon Omega Ruby or Pokemon Alpha Sapphire [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/pokemon%20omega%20ruby%20and%20alpha%20sapphire]? Nintendo announced today a Dual Pack including both games. Packaged with both games are two redeemable codes for 100 potions each.

However, the dual pack does not offer any savings on the games. Separately, each game costs $39.99. The dual pack costs $79.98, making it the equivalent of buying each separately. The difference is that both games will be packaged in one box. Like each separate game, it launches November 21.

As always with the core Pokemon games, each version has exclusive Pokemon. In order to fully complete your Pokedex, you either need some friends with the other version or you need to own both. Also, the version players pick will determine which legendary Pokemon they catch and which team (Team Magma or Team Aqua) will be up to trouble.

Pretty nifty package, if not a little impractical. But given how easy trading is now, I've never really felt the need to own both versions of the generation.

That is one hilarious bonus, though. To be honest, I'm surprised it is isn't a Shiny with a Megastone or something.

Erm. Were potions ever a problem to acquire for anybody? I barely ever use those in Pokemon games, anyway. I'd prefer to get another hit in. It'd be different if using a potion didn't use up that Pokemon's turn. Anyway, the only real purpose I see to this dual pack is for collectors. The two-games-in-one-box means that it'll be unique and interesting to the sorts of people who collect action figures, merchandise and so on in their original packaging.

Do they mean like 100 potions like in-game potions?
That's pretty worthless too, since money is so easy to come by and the games have never offered much challenge.

I don't really care for this. I mean, if I'm paying full price for two games, I'd like some separate packaging. I don't know, that just feels...right.

Couple that with only trying to incentivize it with in game items, and paltry ones at that. It just feels insulting, almost like mocking the US market for doing shit like this. Quite frankly, it feels like the beginnings of a satirical prank, but they just never finished it and pushed it out half assed.

Forget 200 potions. I see it as "Start with 5000 dollars" which can buy some pretty nice TMs early on, or just load up with revives and do the whole "fist vs. brick wall" method of winning.

Well even if it was something super sweet, It wouldn't convince me to buy the game. After playing X, I figured out that I am no longer interested in the franchise anymore, or at least the regular games. The game is just to simple for me, and there really not enough difference between games for me to be interested in buying it. Mario and Zelda, for what they are, change enough that I get each new game. Pokémon is the same thing for me each iteration, and for a 60+ hour grind fest each game, for a story that's barely there, and nothing new and exciting, I just can't care. For those of you who do still like it, you'll be getting it soon enough.

I think after playing the SMT/Persona games, I found a Pokémon like game that has a deeper story, and more interesting gameplay that Pokémon can't get now.

I'm thinking of getting one of these new ones and also make use of the "Nintendo 3DS Winter 2014 Bonus Game Promotion" to get The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds as my bonus then. Or maybe that Yoshi game? Dunno. Anyway, yeah, I'm not that invested in Pokemon anymore, but I'd like to get back into it again with the coming new ones. Even if, yes, there's little innovation and even these "new" games are actually remakes...

It would be good to try it out again, especially with that special deal. I did get my money's worth out of it, and I was trying it out again after skipping a number of games. I just found it no longer to my liking. If you still like it, more power to you. I wasn't trying to condescend those who do like it. (Not implying you found my post to be like that).

Nintendo of America never does good deals or gives good prizes. That's pretty much their thing at this point, to be as cheap as possible when it comes to nearly everything. Have you seen how Club Nintendo has gotten now, it somehow defied all reason and managed to get worse when it comes to prizes. They only do 3 physical items now, and those are the Mario and Luigi greetings cards, the Nintendogs greeting cards (both of which have been there for years because no one wants them), and an ultra hand toy. This is just the icing on the cake really.

Seriously NoA, this isn't even remotely a good deal. You could have discounted the price to $60, hell even $70, but you're keeping the price the same and thinking that 200 potions will sway people? As someone else mentioned, you can get that easily with a Zigzagoon and it's pickup ability in no time.

If you mean 5000 Pokedollars, that at most will buy you 2 regular revives. It'll also get you the lesser TMs since the good ones are normally 5500 Pokedollars. Not to mention you can't buy TMs until Lilycove, and I doubt they changed that in these remakes. If it's 500,000 then yes that's a lot of money, but you can't start buying revives until Fortree City, which at that point you should have at least 5 badges.

Is this better or worse than retailer exclusive content? This bundle seems downright silly for Best Buy and Amazon to promote this as any sort of "exclusive" deal. They don't get a special gym, Mega Evolutions, Safari Zone, or even character skin. At the same time, nobody is missing out on any content. As much as I'd love to get some special, exlcusive content for myself, I'm happy that I won't be missing out on game content by waiting for a good sale/promo price in the future, especially since I'm NOT going to buy both versions of the game.

Wow, Big N's money printing franchise gets a really bum deal? Metroid fans (at least in North America) got that awesome Prime Trilogy pack *goes to hug his really quick* with MP3 and the two Gamecube games with the control update for $50, when every other Gamecube game that got a Wii update was alone and around $50. They could have preyed on the fans by doing the same thing. Why wouldn't they at least mark this Pokemon combo down a few dollars for it using less materials?

I haven't touched Pokemon since gen 2. Besides not needing to carry two games, would this be of any value? It might be neat if you could trade between both games on the same cart, to at least take some trouble out of finding all the critters. Also, will this force you to choose just one game because of save limits? (Remember, Gold was the last cart I held in my hands.)

100 potions is more potions that anyone could ever need, because you'll get to around 30 of them, then they're completely useless.
Very surprised the pack doesn't come with a shiny, or a legendary, or any sort of decent bonus.

Potions? You mean...regular potions? Wow that's pretty much nothing to justify this pack (unless you were going to buy both anyways).

Let's do some math. It costs $200 to buy a potion, so $200 x $200 = $40,000. I could literally go into any of my Pokemon games and buy 200 potions right now and still have enough for more. Seriously, it costs me more for vitamins to EV train my Pokemon. It's $99,000 (for 10 vitamins to get 100 EVs in that stat) per stat, and often that's twice per Pokemon, so we're looking at roughly $198,000 per Pokemon. Now times by 6 if we were going to do this for every Pokemon in a team, and you get the picture. Considering the fact that regular potions lose usefulness after only a few gym badges, you should never need that many potions ever (unless it's a nuzlocke). You can find so many of them just lying on the ground, and the Pokemon Centers are often spaced well enough to the point where the best health care is free and within reach (pending any caves, nuzlockes, difficult battles, or a lazy trainer). Pokemon X and Y are pretty easy to get money, and even though there are lots of expensive goodies, a big cash sink was the player customization (which seems to be absent in ORAS).

I know I'm hung up on this, but it's just so bizarre of a gift.
