PS. Your avatar is AMAZING.
Thanks. I only wish that I could take credit for it, though. Yours is pretty funny as well. Is that how you actually look?

The problem I have with this is that we as taxpayers need to pay for something like this to go to court. In reality I bet the whole thing comes down to some prosecutor trying to get his name in print and maybe make it into legal textbooks for helping establish a precedent, rather than this being even remotely reasonable.
do you even know what it takes to get a restraining order against someone? i can walk down to the court offices and say "hey i want a restraining order against John Doe", however the court will say "why do you need the order put in place?" if i offer anything besides the threat of my own well being, they will say no.

so this really isn't someone trying to become famous, maybe if you actually knew something about how the law works instead of spouting off about on some random tangent you could come up with a good argument

i do agree she could have ignored the person, however i think it was a more dastardly thing to NOT ignore them. simply put it teaches people restraint and i'm pretty sure the woman knew that the other person couldn't resist doing this and she got caught. however i do think the poker should have been the one to delete the lady, especially after she got the court order saying "no contact"

What the hell :/
I hope that other woman is fined for wasting police time.
so what you're saying is you'd like someone to stalk, harass and threaten you cause getting a restraining order is a waste of time?

This is an internet poke when the person being poked had a mutal friends list with the person they got the order on. One would think the "victim" would have removed that person from the friends list.

It's not like the "assailant" showed up at their place of work, or was following them around the grocery store. It's also not like the "victim" couldn't resolve the problem by just deleting a person from their friends list.

What's more simply by having a mutual friends list with the person smacks of the alleged victim themselves seeking contact. Before you say "that's ridiculous" it DOES happen.

I don't expect everyone to agree on issues like this, but *I* feel the context matters.

If your that scared of a person buy a F@cking gun and learn how to use it. If your anti-gun, oh well that's your issue. :p

ummm ok context matters? so part of the order said "NO electronic contact" and a poke on facebook is electronic contact. your argument is rather flimsy and easily torn apart

as for suggesting a person commit murder to protect themselves, sorry that's no answer and would frankly create way more problems than good

But the "victim" had the "assailant" on a friends list. The victim was arguably making contact herself. That's a big part of it. Had the victim removed the person from the friends list there never would have been an issue.

There's a giant hole in this story if you haven't caught it yet. Anybody that uses Facebook and has broken up with a significant other or ended a friendship violently knows that you can easily remove people from your friends list. Facebook by default, in my experience, does not allow the poking of people that are not on your friends list. So, in this case, the poking victim could have just removed Jackson from her friends list.
A whole giant? Sorry, I don't see how this isn't quite a big point:

OT: Yeah, pretty stupid. I'm sue ther's a little more to it than that, but poking someone = hurting someone in real life?

I believe the term is 'fail'.

If someone robs your place, it's still considered burglary even if you forgot to lock your door. It's the same here; it's entirely likely that the person "poked" didn't deliberately leave the contact information up in the hopes that the "poker" would get in touch, and that this was an oversight. A "no contact" court order puts the responsibility on the person receiving the order to obey it, even in this case.

Stop blaming the victim, kids, unless you waive all rights to assistance when you eventually screw up.

The point is that the Facebook poke was worthy over an arrest in the first place, which is ridiculous, whatever the woman did to the person before, a Facebook poke isn't worth even noticing, frankly we'd be better off abandoning that horrible website altogether, but what are you going to do.

And in regards to you being a condescending twat, I suggest you stop, it won't make you many friends and it just makes you sounds like you think you're superior which I can assure you you are not.

A restraining order means 'ALL contact' I've heard similar stories to this with livejournal years ago.

Though it does seem a bit silly.

The problem could lie with proving that Jackson actually performed the poke in a court of law, which to me would seem like something out of Seinfeld.

"Did you poke that woman with the internet ?"
XD

Anyways, I REALLY hope they were being serious when they said the story is more complicated than it sounds. I just read the whole thing and I STILL think everyone involved is probably a little stupider over the whole ordeal.

Or maybe they were neighbors in FarmVille and just couldn't break such a strong bond? If you don't know what FarmVille is, god bless you. Now pretend you never read the word and live a long, productive life.
Mmm... FarmVille.

Excuse me - I must tend to my bell peppers.

Turn away friend. Turn away now. Nothing good lies down that path. 'Twould be best if you continue in your ignorance, lest your soul be taken from you.

Yep. All I really hear is more people complaining about stuff over the internet that doesn't matter. I wouldn't be surprised if it was accidental in some way, and I bet she'll want money for this, or try and find a way to sue her.

Better yet though, this gives me another reason to not use Facebook.
