As chopper would say - "Harden the fuck up."
You're sounding silly now because you're talking about things that you don't understand. Why don't you sit back and listen to the grown-ups talk for a while. Then, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

And yes, I am treating you and the rest just like I do my two-year-old niece... because you're talking like my two-year-old niece. She has a better excuse than you do, though; she's two years old.

You walking arguments for birth control have no idea how hard it is to get a court order like that; the hoops you have to jump through, the evidence you have to present, make me take one very seriously. Also, I don't think you precious brats understand how much misery is implied in getting one of these orders; you don't get one just because you're no longer friends. Very often we're talking about long-term physical and mental abuse. Think "stalker". Think "To Catch a Predator". After undergoing that, victims aren't necessarily going to be thinking straight and they're likely to make mistakes like forgetting to de-Friend the victimiser... or just can't deal with it right away, and need some time to get his/her head straight.

People aren't perfect, and their (and your) imperfections don't justify others' exploitation of them in a civilised society. Of course, those of you who mistook Lord of the Flies to be an instruction manual won't understand that.

Someone needs to take things less seriously.
Yeah and on the other hand; "Moooom! Billy won't stop poking me!!" is not a reason to call in the police, a mature person would just de-friend them, delete the emails and move on, THEN if that person still persists somehow, then call the police.

There's a giant hole in this story if you haven't caught it yet. Anybody that uses Facebook and has broken up with a significant other or ended a friendship violently knows that you can easily remove people from your friends list. Facebook by default, in my experience, does not allow the poking of people that are not on your friends list. So, in this case, the poking victim could have just removed Jackson from her friends list.
*frowns* That's not a giant hole. Quite the reverse.

I don't know about other people, but when I had a very, very bad break-up, I couldn't even bear to log onto my page, never mind remove someone from my profile.

If they were threatening me as well, I doubt I could even do anything rather than report it.

Fairs fair Tom, this women may just be scared. And the Law does say "NO contact".
Exactly... just because you leave the front door unlocked doesn't give people the right to walk in and trespass. I understand that it's "odd" that she wouldn't necessarily remove the individual from her friend's list, but as root stated further in the thread, there are multiple reasons why. We don't know both sides or the whole story unfortunately so it's truly quite difficult to go one way or the other.

Though, from a legal standpoint, an order is an order, no matter the means of communication.

Turn away friend. Turn away now. Nothing good lies down that path. 'Twould be best if you continue in your ignorance, lest your soul be taken from you.
Yes! Flee! Run for the hills or something! That game will eat your soul!

I'm sorry, did you say poke? Honestly.
I call fault to both parties, Shannon for doing the deed and the one called "Woman" for taking action against such a silly deed.

This is why I hate... well I hate a good bit of things, and idiocy such as this hits among the top.

I think we should poke that woman 100 times via facebook. Let her see how it feels like! Cause it hurts deeply right? Right?

I really don't see why "I mis-clicked" wouldn't solve this whole thing. Then again, I'm not a lawyer. In any case, it's absurdity at it's finest.

But the "victim" had the "assailant" on a friends list. The victim was arguably making contact herself. That's a big part of it. Had the victim removed the person from the friends list there never would have been an issue.
that doesn't matter, it's up to the assailant to NOT contact them in any way shape or form. the onus of compliance with this type of order is against the assailant, the victim only has to inform them they are in violation and/or contact the authorities when they are in violation.

so really it is the job of the assailant to remove the victim, not the other way around

as an example, if i have a restraining order against you and i walk into a bar where you are, you MUST leave the bar at that point. i only have to say you are in violation and now you must leave and if you don't i can have you arrested. it doesn't even matter if i knew you were in there before hand and yes this type of stuff has and does happen, you must still leave and will be charged if you don't.

Wh...
What?!

It's bad enough we have Jack Thompson thinking he can sue the website itself but someone suing another person for a virtual poke?

The world is going to hell, and this is the kind of the thing it'll be filled with...

In this modern age of Photoshop, I hope more than just a screenshot of the alleged poke is required to pursue legal action. But then, I am foolishly optimistic about common sense.

Agreed, don't violate legal orders for any reason, the poker was retarded if she thought she could continue her harassment through the internet where it wouldn't count. This was a good move by the police, show this woman that an order telling her to stop harassment means to stop it by all methods.
