Man who beat boy for not removing hat for national anthem blames Trump
A convicted criminal who battered a 13-year-old boy for 'disrespecting' the national anthem has said he was acting on President Donald Trump's orders.

Curt James Brockway, 39, slammed Wally Crosby into the ground when he failed to take his hat off for The Star-Spangled Banner during a county fair and rodeo in Montana. The boy, who said he had not heard Brockway?s demands, was left with a fractured skull and bled from his ear for six hours after the assault.

Brockway's attorney Lance Jasper said Trump's rhetoric of 'respecting the flag' would be used as part of his defence in a court hearing scheduled for August 14. He said: 'His commander-in-chief is telling people that if they kneel, they should be fired, or if they burn a flag, they should be punished.'
Brockway?s victim was rushed to the Sacred Heart Children's Hospital by helicopter after the incident on August 3. The boy has since been released from hospital and is now recovering. His mother, Megan Keeler, said Brockway grabbed her son by his neck and thrown him 'to the ground head first'. She added that Wally is 'deathly afraid of strangers' and 'doesn't remember anything' of the attack. Ms Keeler told the Missoula Current: 'All the witnesses I have talked to said this was completely random. There was no exchange ? nothing! He targeted Wally and took him down.'

So here we have another violent attack from someone who believed that they were following Trumps orders due to Trump's constant tirade of toxic rhetoric. This is far from the first, nor will it be the last, they just keep coming in what seems a never ending barrage of consequences due to the President not bothering to care that his actions and words have consequences. Many people take these awful things he says quite seriously and will act on the presidents orders words as though they are commanded to do so because he is quite literally " The Commander and Chief".

Seeing this happen constantly is becoming disheartening to say the least. It feels like it never ends.

It sounds more like a mental guy did a mental thing and his lawyer is relying on the current climate to wriggle out of it, though it absolutely highlights the danger of the rhetoric being used.

Y'all are crazy about that flag though.

It's pretty straightforward progression from rhetoric about "invasion" to killing.

That is an astonishingly poor legal strategy, if so.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. The man who attacked the child was former Army who has an injury to his prefrontal lobe who swore an oath to obey the president. He very well could have believed he was " following orders" as he did in the military due to the damage to his brain. Yea, I am not even sure why they started this of recent. Even in the very republican district here, when I was in school, standing was optional and no one put their hands over their hearts when the Anthem played while I was in school and it was never considered that much of a big deal. People often just went about their business of buying nachos and hot dogs at the concession stand for the most part. This whole standing and heart thing is a fairly recent issue and people are behaving frighteningly absurd about it.

Apparently this nonsense of players standing on the field for the anthem started in 2009:

Considering he is former military with brain damage, it is not unfathomable that he thought he was following the orders of his commander in chief that he previously swore to obey. Due to his specific circumstance it may just work.

Huh, almost as if the PotUS using violent rhetoric leads to violence. Who'd have guessed?

Imagine how much worse it would have been if there hadn't be a good guy there with a gun.

Adding in very serious diminished capacity would be utterly necessary to have even a small hope, yeah.

"His commander-in-chief is telling people that if they kneel, they should be fired, or if they burn a flag, they should be punished."

And if they cheat their espouses, they should be stoned to death, don't they? Jeez, talk about retrograde minds...

yea, he didn't just think that people kneeling in protest during the anthem should be fired, he thought they should be kicked out of their own country:

Yeah, but if he were a Muslim and he said he did it because ISIS told him to, they'd totally call him a terrorist.

This isn't necessarily in disagreement with you, however. In practice, plenty of people who do violent things in the name of some ideology are much more mentally disturbed than they are ideological.

It *is* a song about war and national pride. So that *would* make it violent nationalist messaging, right?

When your punching old people, the logical next step is to escalate that to children. /S

In all seriousness, I would be very surprised if the next president(If Trump doesn't win) will be able to heal the country and get us back to the Obama normal.

We already have Trump supporters giving up on democracy because they lost half of a branch of government. These people are sore losers even when they are winning.

What else should we expect from them? Considering it was one of these guys who was running Trump's campaign in their area:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2016/01/03/armed-militia-bundy-brothers-take-over-federal-building-in-rural-oregon/

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/aug/17/nevada-cliven-bundy-donald-trump-gerald-delemus-guilty

When they don't get their way they take their armed militias and take over federal buildings and destroy Native American artifacts because that is just who these people are.

Or we have other militias claiming they are training to kill Obama, Soros and Clinton:

https://www.vox.com/world/2016/10/26/13412050/donald-trump-rigged-elections-violence

That is just it, they will just change the names to AOC, Warren, Biden, Sanders.. It doesn't matter. This is only going to get uglier at this point and we can expect this to be worse, not better come 2020.
