Everyone claiming that Sony owns blu-ray are wrong. It doesn't not own it, but I think it helped develop (sponsoring) whoever developed it.

I do not think that the 360 will ever get blu-ray, nor do I think the NextboX to have it either. As someone stated above, this console generation could very well last a little longer than the previous generations. So, my guess is that whenever the next generation 'arrives', technology superior to blu-ray will have emerged.

UMMM..HELLOOO!

Sony isn't the sole owner of blue ray!

If it doesn't happen on the 360, it will happen most definitely on next generation of Xbox consoles.

I have kept up. And I still stand by what I said. I know that this generation will last longer then any prior generation.. probably a 10 or 15 year cycle even. But there will be a Next Xbox eventually. It's inevitable. The newest nvidia card has like 3 billion transistors on it. Technology will advance. There's no stopping it. Eventually the console market will advance with it.
Of course there will eventually be a next console, and, as a matter of fact, I recall typing, "at least not for a while." Anyway, yes, I'm sure that the "Xbox 720" is already in the blueprint stage, and will be released sometime in the next decade....that is, unless, something terrible happens and Microsoft goes bankrupt before then. *evil laugh*
I wasn't trying to get really defensive, but you did put me on the spot, heh

I'm just saying, that even with the long generation cycle, and even BECAUSE of the long generation cycle, the next xbox will probably have a blu-ray drive. By the time this generation ends, Sony will have lost some of its monopoly over blu-ray (even if it is their tech, they can't hold it to themselves forever, especially something like a major player in soft media, like the blu-ray disc). By that time, it may seem like less like paying a tax to their competitor.

Right now though, Sony has a grip on Blu-ray, it's their tech, and they're going to hold it over the world's head until it gets cheap enough that anyone can work with them.

Right now, sony holds most of the chips when it comes to blu-ray. They developed the tech that made using it possible.

I actually knew most of that, and I'll admit It was hyperbole. That list doesn't get us any closer to Microsoft getting their hands on it without paying out the ass. Microsoft is a competitor with a large number of those companies.

Yeah, but as time goes on,especially with the next generation of consoles, Microsoft will have to go with a better format to compete....it'll either be blue-ray or portable drives.

that's basically what I was saying - They can't really feasibly do it now, but eventually, the technology will become ubiquitous, it'll be everywhere, and then they'll use it because it's better.

Yup, MS is screwed on this part. They'll either have to pay bigtime to their competitors to be able to use the technology or they have to make something better then Blu-Ray or they have to stick with HD DVD, which is dead.

But I'm guessing MS will get Blu-Ray. Even Nintendo is planning on putting Blu-Ray in their Wii 2, no?

If Microsoft releases a Blu-Ray Player addon, pretty much everyone would think they copied Sony. Regardless, if you want a BluRay player then PS3 is probably the way to go since, it's probably one of the cheapest options, plus it doubles as a games consoles, who'da thunk it?
How is buying a ps3 the cheapest option? The cheapest Blu-Ray player on amazon is like $100 (assuming you have any sense as an internet buyer, you could easily find a deal that knocks at least 25% off that.) The ps3 was (until recently) $100 more than the 360. Thus pretty much evening it out in the end. So yes buy another system that pretty much plays the same games (except for the occasional exclusive) for an extra $300 instead of just buying a blu-ray player which would run you less than $100, that's the better deal...

If your parents bought you a blu ray player then why would you care whether your 360 can play blu ray films or not?
we're you gonna trade the player in for games or somethign?

MS will probably try and bring out their own version of blu ray, and after a month of owning the disk, it'll probably turn red (well, 3 quarters of it will)

Wouldn't be surprised if they did it in later gen models, but it won't become the standard game medium on the 360.

But I honestly could care less because:
1) I have both a 360 and a PS3
2) I don't mind disc swapping, on account of it only taking 3 seconds to do.

after a while movies are gonna be exclusifly released on blu ray so I,m just wondering if my 360 will be able to play them in the future
