I support Anon, although they can't win. And it's not really true to label 4chan as "anarchic", since there are a lot of users on there in opposition to Anarchism.

Go Anon though. I also support Assange.

The only I thing I don't get though, is why Paypal?
Anon is, by definition, anarchic?

"are a lot of users on there"

No.. no you can't do that. They are legion, they are one? You're suggesting more than one.
You're talking about Anon, 4chan is not Anon.
Ah thought they were analogous, truth be told I don't really care beyond ideologies, and the whole anon stuff is pretentious bull.
"Because the're the hero the internet deserves, but not the one it needs right now...and so we'll hunt them, because they can take it. Because the're not an hero. The're silent guardians, watchful protectors...ANON. "
Great job at disproving his argument! /sarcasm

Oooh, anon is so dark and edgy wooooh.
Seriously, a blatant rip-off from The Dark knight....seriously?

OT: I support Assange and his goals. But I could not care less about anonymous.

United States for sure. If Wikileaks was all about just exposing the dirty secrets that government tries to cover up out of embarrassment then I'd be all for it.

But getting a list of critical foreign resources and locations the U.S. deems would have a severe impact on its economy or status if they were attacked the releasing that info to the world? Inexcuseable.

Besides you ALWAYS have to take everything Anon with a grain of salt. They also fight for being able to pirate as much as they can as much as they want.

Anon may take up frivolous causes on occasion, and they may have the occasional member who is a bona fide psychotic... but they've never championed a cause I was against. Most American politicians deserve worse than wikileaks, and they're being babies about the little it brought to light.

I wish i could be surprised that Assange has gotten so much support, but 'down with government' seems to be the fashion nowadays.

i guess i have to ask, what exactly have you personally gained from wikileaks? You now know that many diplomats secretly badmouth each other, you now know the location of several dozen locations the US hold of key importance, you now know that governments often make shady deals to further their ends. Cool beans. if you didn?t know that gov. military operations were on the shady side, you need to grow up, if you really want to know which senator thinks which Chinese minister is fat, your more of a gossipy schoolgirl than an avatar for truth, and if you really need to know what locations the us holds of importance, you already know via occupational status, or you?ve got some manner of ulterior motive. In the end, I?m hard pressed to find any productivity that results from this leak.

But i can certainly see how this inhibits future diplomacy- Colbert put it best, its like someone forcing a gay person out of the closet in front of the whole world, only that person also controls a large portion of the world. And now he?s pissed off and doesn?t trust anyone. Plus, who in their right mind supports this leak (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/11932041)?

I think people support this whole shebang more because they feel it empowers them rather than because they have seriously considered the situation. I get that government is big and scary, and that 'the man' has been working to keep you down your whole life, but seriously, life is more complicated than 'secrets are bad'.

Censoring the internet? El Oh El. The problem with censoring the net is that you actually have to look into those dark places of the internet where only few stray. I would expect a high burnout rate on those tasked with "purging the internet" if they tried doing that.

I support Anon in the above program although I will take no RL action to support it. ... What? Did you expect me to render my anonymity forfeit? Hell no.

I see the possibility of a dystopic future where the government is the totalitarian of the internet met only by a small resistance who, in secret, fight to bring down the ends of censorship on the internet. Their name: ANON. Their number: legion. Their goal: freedom from oppression (on the internet). They exchange secret messages through lolcats pictures and government-moderated message boards in a code that can only be described as "1337". They are here. They are waiting. They are ready.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to go sell that idea off to Hollywood for millions of dollars!

I am constantly hoping for anon to do something so crazy, so insane that they get the wrath of most governments around, then when they realize they can't DDOS their way out of it, it will be fun to watch 4chan going insane when they realize they only have as much power as the government allows them to have...

Though it's starting to look like our government is unfortunately being "Patient" and not curb stomping anon already... How unfortunate.
And how would the government attack such a diffuse entity? They can't even manage to effectively shut down an organised terrorist group who are generally quite noticeable with all the bombs and guns.

When the entity is even more amorphous, and the only weapon needed is the LOIC then what exactly can the government do?

Of course as I always say in this situation, the government don't actually need to do anything. Just wait and anon will get bored.

IIRC(and that's a big discalaimer, because I can't remember my source) I have heard that WikiLeaks asked the pentagon if they wished to censor certain information that wasn't relevant to their point(soldier names etc) that could be damaging, but that wikileaks didn't have the necessary information to censor properly. And the response was a refusal, because they refused to accept that the leak existed.

I support Anon on this one, Wikileaks is really the only true place for the evils of the government of the U.S. to be exposed, I mean if Wikileaks is shut down forever, then who if any one will expose the wrongs of the government. Shame the news is no longer responsible for that... :/

Also, what are they going to do with them?

Prison? Come on, we already don't have the space, and frankly who's going to support using that space to put away a loose association of internet activists, as opposed to other criminals.

Bar them from the internet? Just proves their point in regards to censorship, and would likely gain them support.

Arguing for censorship is hard. And considering how dodgy some of the information makes the governments involved look, I'm not sure arguing for more censorship is an argument they could win. Yes, there is sensitive information that should be censored. However, some of the stuff being leaked frankly should not have happened, and that is the only reason it is being censored, and that makes it even worse. There needs to be a tighter watch on what the governments can hide. If that is impossible, I would prefer full disclosure to the existence of censorship.

Going against Anon on this one. I don't support censorship and would like to see it ease up but I don't want it gone completely. They are just a bunch of pedophiles wanting to see their Child porn without having to deal with anything. Shut those fuckers down!
Edit"Sure, not all 4chan loves Child Porn but they are still a bunch of idiots who are hiding behind the "anonymity" of the internet. You put those people outside of their house(which rarely happens) and they choke up and become regular citizens. Also! Media is hidden for good reasons. Mass panic and riots are meant to be prevented, not started. If the world was going to be destroyed or anything, we would not hear of it because it would cause mass panic. If this wiki leaks thing actually sends something useful, then riots can start in the US/UK or any other place!

Fuck yeah, Anon on the move again. It makes me proud to see people standing up for truth and freedom using the internet as a major tool. I'm in complete support of Wiki-Leaks and Anon.

Ah, the news of late has been testing my values....

On one hand, Anon is the face of what I hate on the Internet; trolls, gore porn, lack of proper grammar, lowbrow insults...
On the other hand, while they aren't necessarily doing it for the right reasons[footnote]Then again, is there really a right or wrong in this world?[/footnote], they might end up being the only group willing to stand up for the Internet and do something about it too.

Mark my words. Within the next twenty years, the fate of the Internet will be set in stone. We will either all be corporate copyright-slaves that can't say McDonald's new McRib or search for the wrong word on Google without getting our asses handed to us in court, or the Internet will be a self-ruled haven of opinions and free information, regardless of the subject or location.

The way I see it, there are only two real choices for the denizens of the Internet; hope sensible people get into the government[footnote]Hur hur durp[/footnote], or support 4Chan.

It will be... difficult, for me at least, but I would rather have to report 3x the trolls and be wary of every thread I click on than to have the Internet be destroyed by the government. And somehow, this is making me thing of Red Faction: Guerrilla.

As someone already said, Wikileaks hasn't actually done anything yet, and because of that I don't see a point to fighting to keep them alive. That said, I'm against the government's overreaction to them. Seriously Palin, hunt them down like Al Quaeda? Whatever, I'll mostly stay on the sidelines for this one.
