I don't feel like I can vote here. I'm part of the group you're talking about. I don't think I'm prejudiced, but who knows? Maybe, on some subconscious level, I am. I do view people of other races differently. I don't think I'm better, and I don't think they're better. They're different, that's all.

As far as I know, though, the only thing I judge an African American as is African American.

Oh that's no reason not to speak your mind. Surely didn't stop me.

Sure, especially in their early teens. All their neural pathways are still connecting, hormones are flowing, and teens are subject to irrational bouts of impatience. It's part of growing up.

I'm a teenager (17) and yes, I do believe teens are too... stupid to see that differences aren't bad and you shouldn't make fun of different people.

Especially if their parents are homophobes/racists.

However most of the people I know my age are mystified by things like racism and homophobia. We just don't get why they're around.
I imagine it's like Law & Order [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_%26_Order]. Whether you like it or not, it's here to stay.

I'm an adolescent. I am only prejudiced against arseholes.

Sure, I may look at someone and wonder about them from the way the act and dress but at the end of the day I still think the chances are they're a nice person. The internet taught me not to judge, because on here you don't know anything about people and as such can't make assumptions.

But I think I'm in the minority.

Not only do teens judge easily, but we are also easily judged. Im a teen and I have long hair. No matter where I go people judge me as illiterate because of my choice of hair styling. I was accused of "loitering" outside a shop when I was looking at the display items. Seriously, society seems to breed idiots not worthy to judge others, it's not just teens, their prejudice is usually a by-product of their elders teachings, so to say.

I don't know if teenagers are particularly prejudice. Most adults are also very prejudice, and in my experience; adults are way more obnoxious than teenagers. I think it's just that teenagers might be a bit more open/aggressive when talking about things.

At least us teenagers don't start wars because of our prejudice-ness(?)...

To some degree, teens are quick to judge, but I highly doubt that most are prejudice. For some teens, they would be making these "prejudice" and rude comments only for some quick laughs. On another hand however, there are some more radical teen thinkers who portrait themselves as a "superior" race/bred. Judgmental thoughts however, are bred through social upbringing and the society that they interact with.
Prejudice can also be linked with stereotypical icons. For example, piercings and tattoos for some may be considered a "rebel" while for others may be just a fashion trend or body modification for ones own amusement.
Whatever the case, I doubt that a good portion of them are quick to judge a person due to their appearance but rather judging on how the person treats them and their interactions with other people. I for one am a teen (of 15 years), and have not experienced much of life so take my "comment" with a grain of salt.

Hi my name is Jinjo, I'm 17 year old white male. And if you're not a white male aged between 16-40 or a hot female with big tits and a nice arse then get the fuck out of my country!

(just so we are all clear)
/Sarcasm.

People are different, to say that all adolescents prejudice is like saying that all black people are good at basketball. Some are good at basketball and some arent. Some adolescents will and some dont.

I think that older teenagers are more accepting than other "groups".

I think the younger teens are much more judgemental. 16+ from my experience are mostly fine, under that they are douches. i was bullied for 5 years of school for being German. that obviously makes me a Nazi who wants to rid the world of Jews. And that's just for my mum being german, not even me. But then i went college with 16+ year olds and they are mostly very mature. then again these are the people who decided to carry on education, so maybe that's taking an unrepresentative sample.

i think the elderly are much more likely to be racist. case in point - I was standing at a bus stop, the bus arrives and two old women walk out. There is a black lady in the qeue in front of me. One elderly woman says to the other " Damn it i hate those blacks. wish i was alive when slavery was around" I was just like Holy shit did she say what i think she said?

Then i told my mates, who are also teens, and they had pretty much the same reaction. and then you have the likes of people who go around saying " f'ing polish taking or jobs, damn muslims, etc. etc, send them all back to their country" and a lot of them are 30 somethings with a beer belly, who haven't had a job, and living off dole money.

I also think teens are much more accepting of gays and lesbians.

Also i do know that not every elderly person is racist, and that not everyone who hates "foreigners" is 30 and has a beer belly. they were more examples.

Absolutely, whether they realize it or not. I'm not gonna lie, teens can be SUPER-QUICK to judge people they don't know a lot of the time. I'm not speaking for everyone, but that's from experience.

I think the issue is more that people have a predujice towards teenagers. Teenagers are discriminated against as much, if not more, than minority groups and the elderly. That, i think, is a better and more pressing discussion.
Personally I agree with both of these

I'm a teen, and I'm tolerant of everything except things like rape and murder etc. However, deep in the heart of Leeds and its schools there seems to be a disturbing amount of stupidity. Prejudice is naturally bred from stupidity, and so there's quite a bit of prejudice.

Then again, Leeds is in Yorkshire, which is part of an area which sadly managed to vote in a BNP (a fascist racist party for all you non-Brits) member to the EU parliament (however they actually received less votes than previously). This proves karma is rubbish as Yorkshire and the Humberside (the voters-in of racist fascists) are apparently the least affected areas by Swine Flu in the country.

I digressed quite a bit there. Needless to say, my area has quite a lot of prejudiced idiots moping around it. Homophobes especially (God do homophobes annoy me), then of course there's Islamophobes etc. I don't know if people are so prejudiced in other areas, or at least, so many, but if so, I feel sad.

You aren't an adolescant(?), your post confuses me.

Teens reflect their parents and acceptable behaviour in their cliq, if its a prejudiced outlook then that reflects badly on society.

I wouldn't say much more than most people.
16 doesn't count?

Isn't this a little hypocrytical? Asking people if they think teenagers judge on stereotypes, when we are doing the exact same thing? I like how you didn't mention wether they would be discriminative against different age groups.

I think It's mostly due to what your taught growing-up. If your surrounded by hate and prejudice from an early age, your more likely to view as a common occurance, and not think too much into it.

Speaking for myself, I like to think that I am tolerant, but I do judge. If I see somebody from a different country I simply am not sure how to react because I have never been in a situation at school, let alone had a visitor who wasn't white.

As far as judgement goes, I take each individual for who they are and what they do specifically towards me. I don't put people of the same minority/ethnicity/sexuality in the same basket.

But I do agree that generally adolescents are quick to judge. That was certainly my experience growing up (and I was judged. A lot.)

But yeah.

I'm normally very tolerant unless that person lives up to their stereotype to the letter. I don't just someone just because, for example, they have dark skin. However, I hate the rapper/gangster stereotype, so if someone of any race acting like that walks up to me I will dislike them severely. Race/orientation etc =/= Stereotype.

A gay person who gives a bad name to gays is annoying, but I've met gay people who are great fun.
A black person who gives a bad name to all people with the same skin colour is annoying, but I've got black friends who are nothing like that.

The list goes on, just look at the way anyone who looks like a stereotypical Muslim is treated now thanks to the bombings. It's sickening.

Be prejudiced against an attitude, not a race or orientation, and you can't go too far wrong.
