I'm starting to get pissed with Microsoft. They're forming so many obvious, blatant schemes to suck as much money out of us as possible, but do Live prices go down at all? No. Do they do anything for us? Not really. For their sake I'd better start seeing some changes soon.

If the ads pop up out of no where in the middle of a game I'll destroy my xbox.

I don't really care about the ads, I'm with FinalHeart, I don't really hang out on the dashboard very much. I go on xbox to play games. I'm weird like that. But I really doubt that they'll lower the price of memberships. They've already got a million or so customers willing to pay that now, if they can have that kind of earnings PLUS ad space? They're gonna be sitting pretty with diamond cigars and cars literally made of money.
Literally.
Condensed money in the form of cars.

Or maybe they're not doing as well as I thought, who the *#&$ knows?

Don't have an Xbox, but I wouldn't want ads unless there's some benefit, like cheaper service or goods. I doubt that, though, so I'm opposed.

ITS F-Cking Microsoft. A corporation what you expect? them to pay you on the dashboard? that is money, allot of people see those adds. What you guys dont watch television? well what ever I need to stop getting soo emotional with the whole thing that people think that games are a service to them and should be tailored to their every biting.

There's ads everywhere now! Anyone watch Futurama? Remember when Fry had the ad in his dream? Yeah, that's going to happen a lot sooner then the year 3000.

Either drop the price for xbl or put it for siver accounts. And there better not be a freakin platinum live for an ad free dashboard for more money.

As long as they aren't pop-ups during a game, i'm ok with it, but... Why are they doing it?

If they don't 'pop-up' on screen when I turn the console on, why should I? You've already had a fraction of your life lost by being inundated with adverts on TV over insurance for the priceless Ming vase insurance companies seem to believe are in every home. An advert for something like a drink or place to eat (Or here's a thought, stores you can buy games from..) isn't a bad thing, especially if it improves Live overall or lowers membership costs.

Knowing Microsoft, if they make ads a part of XBOX live, you're still gonna have to shell out 50 bucks a year.

They're not gonna pass up a chance to get more money.

Just been reading CVG and it seems that Microsoft will be bringing ads to Xbox live.
There are already plenty of ads on Xbox Live. If you look at the original source [http://www.mediapost.com/publications/?fa=Articles.showArticle&art_aid=108853] of all these articles you'd see that this announcement isn't about ads at all.

Microsoft is adding Silverlight support to the Xbox 360, and Windows Mobile, in order to encourage advertisers to use it when building their ad units. It has nothing to do with new advertising, and everything to do with making Silverlight more competitive with Flash.
Generally at the moment, the featured ads all seem to be connected in some way to the Xbox and it's services, or at least Microsoft. If 6 million Silverlight developers are creating ads for tv, desktop, mobile and surface, I think at least some of them will expect xbl to feature these ads, and I doubt they are all 360 developers.

Also, I don't think Microsoft would integrate Silverlight into Live if they didn't think it was a lucrative investment. Sure, they can raise the popularity of their format, but if they spot a reasonable cash flow, as 6 million developers really should provide, I'm less than certain they'll hesitate to take it.

The line that both CVG and EDGE have taken on this seems to be that this will lead to new advertising, and I tend to agree, even if that's not stated in the Microsoft press release.

Unless I get free points for watching it they can gtfo. It's bad enough seeing billboards for mcdonalds in a mansion in quantum of solace. Who the hell puts a billboard inside a house?

There have been ads on xbox live at least since the days of rainbow six vegas. I remember seeing ads for assassins creed in calypso casino XD
Hopefully, more ads means more money for them, meaning they will, if they do the decent thing, reduce the £40 a year
