How soon is soon?

Anyway, the whole country basically went on super alert after it (even if it doesnt seem so) so I dont think it will be on American Domestic soil.

Instead, it will probably be on foreign soil against Americans (over seas flights that take off with high congregations of Americans, or at least a decent number). And of course its allies.

Nope, sorry, it wasn't.

The "Jewish State in Palestine" was guaranteed by the Balfour Declaration in the 1920s, after World War ONE left Britain and France in possession of most of the Middle East. Britain, the inheritor of Palestine, continuously balked at the idea and insisted on hanging onto the area as a colony...including intercepting and attacking Jewish settlers trying to make their way to Palestine as late as 1947.

Ultimately, the United Nations declared the creation of Israel in 1948 as a means of hopefully settling the violence which had already cropped up between Arabs and Jews. It did not; the neighboring Arab nations immediately declared that the Jews would be "driven into the sea" and invaded.

Ever since, the prevailing Arab view has been that Israel "occupied" the homeland of the Palestinians, who never owned the land even when it was part of the Muslim Ottoman Empire --- they were its subjects. And this despite the fact that the land promised to the Jews in the Balfour Declaration was cut in more than half, with the greater portion forming the new nation of Jordan as the official Palestinian homeland.

After Jordan joined the 1967 Arab attempt to annihalate Israel, they lost the West Bank and its government began proposing to live in peace with Israel after all. This prompted Yassir Arafat to create the Palestinian Liberation Organization, whose first big move was an attempted coup against the government of Jordan. Thereafter, Palestinians still living in the refugee camps were prohibited from becoming Jordanian citizens for fear that the PLO would come with them.

And there's your Reality Check. You're welcome.

Isreal is a fundamentalist religious state just like many others in that area. They oppress the people who lived there and had a chunk of their lands removed to give to Israel. They ignore any international comment on their behavior, antagonise everyone around them and basically think they have free reign to do whatever they please.

The Jews have a right to be angry at the world, in their history they have suffered greatly... but giving them a naiton was like taking that one kid in school who always gets bullied, after a particularly bad beating, and telling him "This area of the playground is yours, do whatever you want, we'll be over here with our fingers in our ears.. oh, and here's a cricket bat with nails in it."
Regarding legitimacy, we beg to differ. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "fundamentalist". If it's an orthodox judaism you're talking about, then no, Israel isn't fundamentalist.

But all that is largely beside the point, which is that we're allied with Israel because they're a western-style parliamentary democracy whose neighbors have repeatedly threatened with violent annihilation.

Wow... practically an even split so far.

I'm curious what sort of attack would attempted. Something big again?

I feel that this isn't over, not by a long shot.

The extremists will likely make Bin Laden into a martyr. How likely is it that you think we'll be under attack again? Are we guarded enough to prevent it?
This is a thought that crossed my mind, and while I'm not scared it will happen, I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

Really, what I'm doing here is asking you where you got your avatar? Because I fucking love it.

I am curious... why are you opposed to it?
Never said I was opposed to it, I'm just wondering what we get out of funneling money and protection to them.

I can't see them attacking the US itself but you'll probably hear about a lot more soldiers dying.

They're surrounded by people who want to wipe them from the face of the Earth, an alliance with America both reduces the risk anyone will directly attack Israel and in turn controls their aggression. It also sends a pretty clear message to the other nations, specifically Iran.

Yea but if you took him to a prison there would be crazy-ass attempts to bail him out so. . . Isnt it a loose/loose? At least on the not getting attacked front.

Yeah, we'll probably be attacked again, but I doubt it will be as bad as 9/11. Unless the Taliban have somehow gotten their hands on biological weapons or nukes. Then it could be quite serious.

Still, living in a relatively unpopulated city far away from the East Coast, I'm not afraid for my personal safety. I am, however, afraid of the economic impact it might have if the Taliban actually manage to pull off a successful attack (of any size) and everybody freaks the fuck out.

We'll probably be having to walk through security at US airports butt-ass naked from then on. Oh well; I wasn't using my dignity for anything anyway.

An excuse to nuke Iran. And also I hear they have some nice beaches and hot women.

I thought they handled the matter quite well actually. I mean they Gave him a religious Burial Ceremony, Buried him within 24 hours as per Muslim law, did NOT release pictures of his body and were Not being Overtly celebratory (I;m talking about the government of course). The subdued manner in which the government acted will probably go a Long way in staving off a retaliation for a while.

I talked to my uncle Ahmed & he said to me: "Yimir, we be rainin' fire & steel on the capitalist dogs this year".

Seriouszly though, you can never know what's gonna happen next. If the news surrounding Bin Laden's death are true, some security measures should probably be taken... just in case.

Why the hell would they travel all the way to the U.S to make a statement?
No, they will probably trash the embassies in and/or around the middle-east and slaughter countless staff for the U.N located nearby.
Or cause structural damage in populated areas.

But, rest assured, there will be retaliation. And the Al-Qaeda will survive.

I doubt it, but you never know. I don't think they'd be able to repeat anything ever near the caliber of September 11.

What the hell does Israel have to do with Afghanistan, Pakistan, or Iraq?
One of the many reasons Al Qaeda hates America is its allegiance with Israel.

I think the majority of overseas terrorists exist only to drum up funds to send home (with the exception of a few nutjobs), so my vote is no to overseas activity, but there will probably be a "display" of some kind to rally and declare their presence and threat.

the prime word there is "many". If the US broke off ties with Israel, not only would they lose the only out-and-out ally in the middle east, but it wouldn't change anything for the better.

Yeah, you asked what connection Israel has to the Afghanistan situation. I was just letting you know. I don't really give a shit beyond that :).
