I was just working my was through Extra content of Fallout 3. Then i got this thought.. "i have spent almost an entire week (i hit about 120 hours total) on this game and am on my 3rd and Evil Chr to get the last of the trophys. then i Put Resonance of fate in now that is going to be my next week of gaming (to much the hate of the missis she wanted to go on little big Planet).

So now what keeps me wanting to go in to games so big, i feel a sence of reward that i don't get from meny other games..

so i was thinking are you al the same as me on this. haveing the same pull to RPGs more than the others?

Its a mix for me, most have really good stories that draw you in, the other reason I like them is the longevity. You can often get 40+ hours out of a good RPG which screams of better value for me.

I have to say that it's the stat-based combat. Although, I also like RPGs with a lot of looting, but that wasn't in the poll.

I love a nice stats based battle.

Mass Effect 2 lacked that...Cutting away ALL the stat management, instead of just simplifying it.

Dragon Age and 98% of JRPGs have enough of that, though.

I'd say I played for the story...but that'd be a lie. In the end, I don't care how good/shitty the story is. It's the combat system that hooks me.

And RPGs offer hundreds of different systems, from Dragon Quest to Final Fantasy to Star Ocean to Tales to KOTOR to Dragon Age.

And yes, I must insult Mass Effect 2's simplicity in EVERY RPG thread on this site.

I do like a good story with my games, but the stat-based battles are veary apealing along with being able to plan them out instead of just run and gun.

It's story and character all the way. That's why Final Fantasy is my favourite series ever and Bioware can't do much wrong in my eyes. Fallout 3 was awesome (If flawed) but the story seemed simplistic and some characters were 1 dimensional.

Emergent storylines, i have yet to see it implemented to the level that a tabletop can offer, but it's the foolish hope to have actual impact on the story that draws me in. Needless to say, i'm very often disappointed.

Best case of this was probably Fallout 1 & 2, Arcanum and Dwarf Fortress Adventure mode. (This may be nostalgia speaking, though)

I like leveling, and I like character creation. I am drawn to such games that let me, like TES, and Dragon Age. (Though DA2 wants to harm the experience...)

Story. I play mainly for the story, but good combat and lots of achievments (would have been nice to have seen them in the poll along side with trophies) never hurt the experience.

The point of the game was to be as simple as possible, making it more easily approachable so that more players could enjoy the story/Bioware would make more money. ME2's combat ultimately works better than in the first game, where it was more stat based. And since the game does what it's ultimately supposed to do pretty well, I see no point in insulting the simplicity of it.
