Well, that would fall under the topic of anime, but yes, we were talking about this on IRC and I think the conclusion was reached that because those are somewhat less than legal they would be somewhat frowned upon. And on an unrelated topic, your avatar gives me nightmares and hallucinations. You are an evil person for it.

Just because it is from Japan does not mean it is better, it should not even have its own unique name! Canadian animation does not have its own title so why should Japanese?

Is this interest in a general media section, or specifically anime? Films and books are a much more widespread interest, and films reviews are on the site now, so if an anime section was introduced, would other popular mediums get a section too?

Anime in itself is a bit limited. If it was J-media in general, such as manga and music, why not?

Nonononono. Manga in the anime section would be ok, but a general J-culture thread could just turn into an unbearable mess of Nipponphilia.

Personally, I will never succumb to watching Anime. I only watch my shows in their respective original languages. If I don't understand that language I don't watch it. Secondly, it's cartoony and idiotic.

One I hate forums which create a forum specificly for anime, yet not create a forum for regular TV shows and movies, there are way more of those then all tose anime shows. I wouldn't say to go so far as to create a subforum for every genre of TV show, but instead of making an anime forum, better make one for the larger group.

Considering the existing catagories are "Gaming" and "other"... I dont really see why it should get an anime forum before anything else.

As much a fan of anime I am (with over 300 series under my belt)... 90% of anime-related talk on non-specialist forums ALWAYS leads to 10-20 threads about the same aspects of Naruto and Bleach, which is what most of the anime-interested kiddies watch these days, and of which I'm strongly not a fan...

Theres only so many "HAI GUYS WHAT DID U THINK OF NARUTOS NEW EPISODE!!!!! LOLZ" threads I can tolerate. My vote is no... If you want to talk about anime, find an anime forum, not a gaming forum...

Probably just a convenient word to refer to it separately from western animation.

If we get an anime board, then we should also get an apocalypse board. There are tons of threads about zombie invasion/nuclear holocaust/natural disasters etc.

Surprisingly good point. The idea behind an anime forum would be that we have a good number of anime threads with a lot of posts, and we sure as hell have a lot of apocalypse threads, especially the zombie kind.

I just think there'd be a big influx of trolls, unfortunately, and people simply posting to say "I Hate Anime", so it'd need a constant watch I think.

Well, you could say the same thing about the gaming discussion board, you'd think there'd be plenty of people saying "Games are 4 nurds" and stuff like that, but after the first handful get banned people start to think twice.

While that is true, to be fair The Escapist is a gaming-related website, first and foremost, so people who aren't gamers or aren't interested in games aren't as attracted to the site in the first place, yes? So, the users of the site are much more likely to post (hopefully) nicely and only defend their favourite games or consoles, rather than trolling games in general, although I've no doubt that it must have happened at some point.

However, while I'd love to see an Anime forum, there's a lot more people on this site that have a negative opinion of Anime rather than of games, so there'd (almost certainly) be heavy trolling, which would always continue, especially when new users come here just to troll.

Having said that, yes, you are right, the first wave of bannings would make most users think twice, but I still believe that an Anime forum would get some of the heaviest trolling, thus necessitating a slightly higher watch, if only for the first few weeks of its creation.
