As a guy we are generally stereotyped as only liking casual sex. While there are some girls I'm interested in only in a sexual way (usually because I don't like their personality or they are CRAZY) I tend to be in a situation where I would prefer sex, in a committed relationship. Don't get me wrong there's "hot" people I want and not to date, but I seem to idealize good love.
Background, divorced parents, saw my Dad be a player; raised by Mom who had failed relationships. So I am also wary about dating the wrong person, definitely don't want a baby with a "booty call". How influential do you think upbringing is towards people's view of these?

I am a college student and it seems like lots of girls just want casual sex as opposed to relationships (in spite of what society says). That's even more popular among guys. So I just want to see peoples view on this, see if I really am the only guy who wants love on the side of vagina, etc.
-This is not to say I'm some sort of "nice guy woe is me" there's girls I have unfairly led on because BOOBS while I simultaneously hate facing the same behavior.

Don't get too mad about the poll options I'm joking.
(Sorry if I'm making too many threads, hope this is universal and not a "get out of here with your 18 year old venting" moment)

I prefer the loveydovey sex, but settle for casual when not in a commited relation. It's basically a quality vs quantity thing. Yes I'd prefer a rare firegrilled steak but I'll settle for MC D's if I haven't eaten in a few days.

Not sure what this has to do with sex, but you need to seriously reevaluate your eating habits.

To be slightly less dickish, you're in university, that's pretty much the accepted time for "everyone does the sex, drugs and rock and roll thing", people are usually away from home for the first time and full of hormones and surrounded by people in the same situation. Finding some impressively drunk 18 year old wandering around in little more than underwear, or sometimes less, attempting to fuck anything vaguely human is not that unusual (ok, pretty much every friday/saturday) and we have to escort them back to their rooms or our drunk tank top make sure nothing bad happens to them.

I could start to explain what a comparison but I'm kinda hoping you do see the point I was trying to make and you're feigning ignorance so you could make the joke. ;)

That is indeed the case. :3

OT: If you consider sex to be something to have in the context of a relationship, that's commendable, and you shouldn't second-guess yourself. No reason to take your cues from others.

Nope. Quantity over quality for me. It's practically the only thing i have worth bragging about. The best are one nights that are mindblowingly awsome. It definately makes up for all the others that are simply average.

Plus,sex isn't that big of a deal. It's just an activity that two ( or more) people engage it. Like going to the movies, or bowling.

How do you do it? I can barely get turned on around someone if I'm not romantically interested. I'm not sure why, but I would like to expand my horizons and have some college fun.

Kinda' leading poll questions there, huh? Casual sex and emptiness? Why not just put Casual Sex and watching your mother die? Joking or not, really torpedoes any real discussion, doesn't it?

On a lighter note, you must be having really bad casual sex if you walk away feeling empty. I had a bunch of casual sex in college and I never once left her room thinking "Why won't someone hug me?!" Granted love sex can be great, but all sex releases endorphin's into your brain. You should, chemically speaking, feel great after consensual sex, casual or otherwise. Its biological, so you literally can't not unless you have a hormonal imbalance.

To quote from In Memoriam A.H.H:

I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

That said though, I have nothing to compare it with..

I'm not a fan of casual sex, a couple of awful experiences has given me some trust issues regarding it all and some other insecurities, I just feel really uncomfortable with it.

Uhhh...I think I'm ok with the idea of both, but I'd prefer it in the context of a relationship. Then again, I haven't had good experiences with relationships, and a more casual attitude toward sex might be better for me.

Whatever, sex is sex. I wouldn't mind either situation.

I never got laid in university, but have since had sex with someone that I'm crazy in love with. I've been told that if I were assertive I could have got some (I'm not hideous and my whole androgyny thing intrigues a few girls), but there's no way to be sure, plus assertiveness isn't really something that appeals to me.

So yeah I'm not sure what the difference is, really. There's no way I could sleep with someone that I don't have feelings for? I find the idea of casual sex to be unappealing because masturbation is so much less of a hassle. But if that appeals to you, awesome. I advocate casual sex when done responsibly.

I don't like those poll options though. Why does any kind of sex have to result in something bad? Relationships don't necessarily have to end in a trainwreck and I'm guessing one night stands can be harmless if you're emotionally prepared for it.

I prefer sex with someone I care for.
I'm in a committed relationship now and have been for some time but even when I was younger and chasing girls I was really cautious towards casual sex.
Some people can be asymptomatic carriers of STD's and wearing a rubber doesn't offer 100% protection against some of them.
for example, I know somebody that really wanted to wait for that special lady before losing his V-plates. Unfortunately for him he got drunk one night at a party and caved in when some random girl came onto him. Then, sometime later BAM! herpies.
Needless to say the poor guy was devastated.

You know it's interesting as much as they stereotype guys as being all abouyt the casual. STudies show women engage in it just as much if not more than guys. They are just less honest about it... with good reason. A guy can brag confidently and be cheered for admitting to having 7 women.... a gal on the other hand would be shamed and stigmataized if she admitted to 7 flings with seven guys.

I vote for romantic sex, but that is because:

A) While the internet has features that don't quite outperform casual sex, they come much more cheaply. Basically, nearly limitless amounts of free, on demand internet porn and an old laptop that I don't care about buggering up is far easier, cheaper, and more reliable than trying to go out to hook up. Not quite as good, but it gets the job done.

B) Emotionally speaking I'm about as clingy as a guy can get without sliding into creepy/stalker territory. This makes me rather unsatisfied in casual relationships, and also leans towards making them muddier and more complicated. Ironically romantic relationships are simpler for me than non-romantic ones. Take that Hollywood.
