so, do shoes fit within the category "apparel"?
they may have different areas in stores
but is that just because they are such a major sub category?

and what are your reasons for thinking so?

(Poll should be "do shoes 'count as' a type of apparel"

Unless I'm mistaken, apparel = things you wear. You wear shoes so I can only assume that shoes are, in fact, apparel. Also there are a ton of styles and designers who work exclusively on shoes. Other pieces of apparel have similar specialists so that's another point in the 'yes' category.

I do consider shoes as "apparel" in the same way I also think of my t-shirts, shirts, jeans and trousers as "apparel" so I am leaning towards yes.

well, depending on who i talk to, they sometimes count, and sometimes don't
i'd be interested to know why the two who said no said no
does anyone who thinks no want to explain their view??

I think they are. You may not always have them noticed, but they're still technically clothing which makes it apparel.

In my mind, apparel = clothing and I consider shoes an article of clothing. Anything that covers a large part of the body I would say is apparel......shoes, socks, pants, undies, shirts, jackets, gloves, and hats.

I suppose. I never look at, or notice, shoes on people however. They even mentioned in in The Shawshank Redemption. Something along the lines; "No man looks at another man's shoes".

Girls sometimes mentioned my old shoes though. I wore the same ones for probably four years, so they were pretty messed up. I'm not poor, just lazy. Finding shoes in my huge size is a damn challenge.

I'm gonna say no purely from a commercial standponit. Look at a mall map for example. It's broken down into: Mens Apparel, Ladies apparel, Childrens Apparel, Shoes, and depending on the size of your mall accessories (such as handbags, baby equipment and jewellery).

If you look at it from a big box store perspective, such as Wal-Mart or Target, shoes are located in a completely seperate area away from their core fashion. Mens shoes are never in the mens department for example. Also promotionally, if Target were to have a sale on apparel, such as 25% off all summer fashion, it would never include footwear unless it was explicitly stated.
