The reason for this thread is that within the last hour I have seen five people on this forum completely miss something that for me was clear sarcasm and where the poster later stated that it was indeed sarcastic.
So are it easy for you or hard.
For me I have only been corrected one time, and normally I find it easy to see when people are being sarcastic.

The difficult thing is you can't hear someones voice or see their face. All you can do is stare at their avatar and wonder how they are saying it

I usually catch it quick and everytime . . . what helps, though, is how often you're on a specific board, and how regular you are. You get used to other regular posters, and their posting "style."

But, the occasional slip-up happens . . . and that's usually sorted out quick, too.

Just assuume everything is sarcasm. I had actually seen one that made me laugh from the blatant sarcasm and then the ignorance of it.

I usually pick it up, but in future, perhaps people should use sarcastic remark , just to be sure.

It's almost impossible to figure it out on the internets. So please for everyone's sake, don't use sarcasm on The Escapist.

On the internet? Most of the time. In real life, all the time, unless it's my dad. He says stupid thing sometimes, but he also makes sarcastic remarks the same exact way he says everything else, so I can never tell which is which.

In my head that sounds sarcastic, but probably because I was thinking about it.
I'm sure you didn't ment it sarcastic :3

But detecting internet sarcasm is harder, indeed due to the lack of facial expression, body language etc. But then again. It's the internet ;)

Damn it! Ninja'd...

Ahem, in real life I pick up sarcasm all the time. The thing with sarcasm is that a lot of it is in facial expression and tone of voice, all that is hard to covey online.

It depend if you the person you think is sarcasm is someone you know or someone you had recently meet or a stranger.

I'm not really proud of it, but I'm kind of a sharp edged, sarcastic, sardonic, son of a *****.

I don't do it deliberately... exactly. I was brought up in a family of intelligent, fast witted, well... pricks.

It kind of just becomes part of the day to day social venacular. As such, I'm kind of a sarcasm ninja.

I consider jokes like "Hey, did you know they took the word gullible out of the dictionary?" to be stupid... Until some gormless fool falls for it.

Edit: For written sarcasm, there's this;

http://blog.ragan.com/prjunkie/2009/12/do_we_need_a_sarcasm_font_oh_y.html

but it kind of thakes the fun out of it...

Sarcasm can be difficult online. Many people know English as a second or third language, which would make it more difficult to pick up. Besides, some cultures embrace sarcasm differently than others... so yeah...
