My favorite is gold by the simple fact that it was the first game I ever owned and that it i simply awesome... and i have played through it 23 times

The metal generation AKA Gold and Silver where the games that defined the games to come. Like Link to the past, all other pokémon games follow suit with only minor adjustments to the formula. but it is the incredible amount of time and replay value you get out of it.

I'm a little ashamed to say Sapphire/Ruby. Just because it had more pleasent, clearer graphics. But if Gold/Silver had those kinds of graphics, they'd be in my top spot undisputed.

Gold for me. Its just the game I did the most in overall in the series, not counting my perfect completion on Blue. I'm sure I'd appreciate the newer ones more if I didn't keep looking for older Pokemon in them though...

I loved red and I miss it dearly. It is missing form my GBA games/rom collection. And I dont yet have an emulator on this PC. Maybe I shall track it down and play it in the near future.
A close second would be silver. And then Emerald.

I heard Platinum was good, but I have yet to play it. ...And its in my DS right now. Its my brothers and I havnt yet felt a need to play the game. :/

In terms of gameplay, yes.

But each time they add some new features.

More like expansion packs than new games.

There should have been a Gold/Silver option.
They're essentially the same game, you just have a different set list of Pokemon that you're able to catch.

And I think they were the best because you were able to go back to Kanto, and essentially replay Red and Blue, which was reallllly fun.

I agree, Gold/Silver should probably be their own option. But I loved them for the glitch that let you copy your pokemon endlessly. No more fighting over who got Mewtwo!

Gold was definatley the best, although Sapphire wasn't all that bad either. Pretty much anything after that is not worth the buy.
