Ok fellow escapians, here's the deal. Anyone else tired of only getting to see one episode maybe 2 of the Jimquisition a week? and only if something really important happens mid week? I thought so, and me too. Last week's episode on ad block got me thinking... Why can't we form some sort of minorly political highly fanatical cult out of this? I doubt it would be hard to buy some crap land somewhere4, build some sort of cathedral on it with a large 10/100/1000 switch for teh internet gaeming, do some sort of monk farming and domesticated livestock shit3 and let1 the great Jim speak on the garme jurnalizm daily. FOR TRUTH, FOR PRIDE FOR GARM JURNALIZM FOR JIM!

Ideas on a doctrine? Who's in?

Notes:
1. let; v: coerce firmly because this is totally a great idea2
2. Also drill queen can come too.
3. We need strategic reserves of Dew and a good split of salt and vinegar and bbq chips.
4. With easy access to a T1 line

While i like (most) of jims videos, i do wonder, does anyone actually listen to him? Or just watch his videos for entertainment. He has valid points, is overzealous at times, but it all seems rather... Pointless ( for lack of a better word)at the end of the day.

What's a T1 line? Is it something to do with train lines? Preferably for steam trains...I love steam trains...

I think a Pyramid or a giant ziggurat would be more timeless. That would give us a lot more platforms from which to rain down champagne and wit on the unlearned hordes!

Hey, he's got integrity and that seems to be setting a particularly good example when it comes to journalism in this industry. Every little bit helps when it comes to getting things back on track [http://www.nrm.org.uk/globalmedia/CD050211_2.png?w=125&h=85&as=1].

I uh... think I regret staying a while to listen right now.

Besides, the cult of Yahtzee never really did anything except snark very poorly back when it still prominently existed. I can't imagine any Sterling-based faith would fare better.

People on the internet are bad at satire.

Controversial opinion but the only series of his I like is 'Movie Defence Force' and only that part of the time.
EDIT: Before I get quoted on this I should point out that I respect him and he definitely knows what he's doing etc. I just don't agree with his opinions and have some qualms with the way he presents them.

You mean all these cynical horribly bad-at-snarkyness folk who post here AREN'T Yahtzee cultists? Then what the fuck is wrong with people these days? Wow... I'm not the biggest optimist in the world, but I haven't ever seriously reached the level of cynicism and what apparently passes for "wit" that a lot of Escapist users have. Thats depressing.

Big fiber line. Lots of bandwidth.

Not generally, at least from what I've seen.

I'm sure Yahtzee is still one of the bigger pulls this website has, but his videos are much more tame than they used to be and he doesn't generate near the same amount of nontroversy as he did back with things like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, for instance. Jim is almost assuredly pulling the more ridiculous attention these days, though it's not always just from people already on this website...

Then what the fuck is wrong with people these days?
Feminism threads.

Actually, a few of us have been documenting it (I say that just to make it sound more impressive than the reality of "We occasionally blab on about the forums") and ever since the Mass Effect 3 debacle, the forums around here have been steadily tearing themselves further and further apart from the inside. The whole Sarkeesian thing might seem unrelated, but it started around the same time and really seems to be the catalyst that's keeping the whole more grand flame war burning. We have a month of quiet every now and then, but then "Oh no!" Anita used a piece of fanart without asking! Better have a thread about it!

Oh dear, I've gone and done it now... now this thread will probably derail too. I'm sorry. ):

Wow... I'm not the biggest optimist in the world, but I haven't ever seriously reached the level of cynicism and what apparently passes for "wit" that a lot of Escapist users have. Thats depressing.
You're not the only one, trust me. I've always found threads that I wanted to respond to but would just end up not being worth the trouble of the ensuing quote storms, but these days they seem to get more frequent with every month.

Internet backbone fiber connection. The kind of thing that can give a whole gamehack convention 100Mb/s download speeds, or a small city.
Woah...I fear I could only dream of having that kind of sh*t-hot internet speed.

I think that trend can be turned around. It would be a great shame to see this place devolve into the sort of nonsensical fighting pit that a lot of other sites seem to be.

Well, I consider Jim to be less of an entertainer than Yahtzee, who I've never really thought of as a critic or reviewer. It's occasionally fun to watch Yahtzee rip into games, but if I took him seriously, I'd never play anything.

Jim usually makes decent points and interacts in a positive way with his audience, while Yahtzee calls everyone who uses comment sections, 'twats'.

Throwing this link in here, just in case someone wanted to verify.

Jim comes off as good-natured, and having a great sense of humour. His amiable site presence is appreciated amidst the negativity.

There is really no point half the time, as with most videos that do commentary on a community and its issues all he does is make points, that are already just common sense for people who use their brains.

If it wasn't entertaining and was trying to just do a whole serious commentary thing it would have failed.

i wouldnt say big. It is standart fiber optics line nowadays. at least around here prettym uch everyon gets T1 line to their house and then the fiber cables to thier modems. Heck, they go so far as to put fiber so close here that i got one going around my table. fragile things they are though.

I don't know if I'd join a proper Jim cult, but I'd vote for him in an election for sure.

I... kind of listen... I suppose.

I mean, what exactly is the yardstick of having listened? I'm not about to barricade EA's head office on Jim's say so.

I find some of his main points a bit repetitive. I mean, once you've heard him decry the evils of publishers once you've heard it enough to last you a lifetime. Fine points I'm sure, but no stronger for having been made 15 times over.

Come to think of it, he sorta of reminds me of those forum members who post what is essentially the same thread every couple of weeks or so.

Well, yes, but it's reassuring to see that there are people that do.

Personally, I find his attempts at humour to be painfully unfunny, but he one of the few big ish people in his line of work that's consistently talking about the issues.

Not sure if satirical sarcastic, tongue in cheek, crazy, or just on drugs. All seem relatively plausible.

If this is just a space for us to give our opinions of Jim Sterling: I think he's a good honest guy who's got more sense in his head than the average person on the internet (not a high bar I know but still) and a bit of charisma to back it up. The only issue I've ever had with him is his horrible artwork, which he no longer makes thank god. I don't know if what he does really affects the world in any way, but it's nice to have someone around to speak common sense.

You could argue that the points have to keep being made in order to be listened to. But then again, repetitive forum arguments haven't changed my mind about a damned thing, so I'm not about to say that it really applies to anything else as well.

I do feel like Jimquisition could do with shorter episodes, sometimes, I don't know if he works to a set length, like how ZP doesn't usually exceed 5 minutes; but if he does it shows sometimes.

I 'unno, it's difficult to stay ahead of the curve and provide content that's fresh when the creator probably uses the same news sources that any forumgoer uses; then again it's a rare forumgoer that can make an engaging, cogent argument or discussion.

Thinking about it, I don't like that idea, that everything has to be an argument, rather than a discussion. I know it's difficult to sympathise with every party (and it's not always needed, granted), but gamer rage is such a played-out and sometimes tiresome theme now; I'm finding myself more drawn to content creators who are more positive about good things than negative about bad things. I don't need to be told that overpriced DLC is bad (though the things that some people call overpriced puzzle me at times), most times these things are pretty bleedin' obvious.

But then again, no one wants a quiet, calm discussion, now do they? No, because that would make you a shill, or something.
