Let's take a look, shall we?

Britain: Muse, Radiohead
America: Lil' Wayne

I think we can ascertain the obvious winner here.

Both have fantastic stuff. America's have Jimmy Buffet, The Eagles, The Decemberists--The Brits have the Beatles and Pink Floyd.

No reason to start a potential hate thread. As soon as you save America--people can't wait to say how much they hate anything American.

A lot of the music I listen to is actually japanese in origin, and I'm not counting video games.
I have to agree with this. I have an entire station on my Pandora that is almost nothing but Japanese Artists. American rock musicians could learn something from them.

It all depends on what you liked. Some of my favorite rock groups are from Britain. Most of my favorite punk bands are from the US. Even there there are a ton of and some of the best of them are from Britain.

It depends totally on what you want, and it doesn't matter this is just a US versus Europe thread prettied up anyway.

As an American I wish I could say America, but my iPod says otherwise.
Yes, British music is usually better to me.

Britain/Europe: Iron Maiden; AC/DC; Black Sabbath; The Rolling Stones; The Sex Pistols; The Beatles; Behemoth; Nightwish; Dimmu Borgir; Dragonforce; Arctic Monkeys; Dizzee Rascal; The Cribs; Pendulum(Australian-British); The Police; Ozzy Osbourne; U2; Enter Shikari; Lost Prophets; The Fratellis; Biffy Clyro; Alestorm; Skindred... these are the bands and artists I like from the top of my head.

American: Guns n Roses; Aerosmith; Paramore; The Killers; Nirvana; The Foo Fighters; Metallica; Green Day; The Jimi Hendrix Experience; Pantera; Slipknot; Flogging Molly; Skeletonwitch; slayer; the offspring... These are the bands and artists I like from the top of my head.

Purely from number of acts I can name from the top of my head, the Europeans win.

I love music from both, but have to say I listen to way more American music.
So much of what I listen to is rooted in folk music, which America puts out a lot of. My favorite band, Wilco, is American. A lot of American music is very multi-cultural, anyway. There's almost no point in identifying them with a geographical entity. Vampire Weekend, as anyone who listens to them probably knows, takes much from African music. Santigold is one of music's biggest genre-transcending artists.

Theres a lot of great British music today, too. Arctic Monkeys, Teddy Thompson, Slow Club, Radiohead, a lot of the classics (Beatles, Led Zeppelin)

Still gotta say I listen to far more music made in America.

THE SCOTTISH.
which is technically the British.
but still
SCOTTISH BANDS.

Biffy Clyro, Alestorm, Twin Atlantic, Bleed from Within, Azriel, etc.
Agree with the Scottish bands point but Biffy havn't done anything really special since Infinity Land. And in this list of the best Scottish bands and you leave out Idlewild!?! AND Travis, Proclaimers, Snow Patrol, Franz Ferdinand, etc. Scotland produces loads of fantastic artists!

And best of all?

We have BAGPIPES!! :D
