Recently, as you all should know, a bigger DS and a bigger iPod Touch were released. What is the sudden thing with making hardware bigger? I thought it was suppose to get smaller, but then again, I'm not a marketing genuis.

With the release of these two machines, I remembered something: how much people complained about how big the original PSP was, and how big the Zune was. Do you remember that? I thought they were a fine size, and love my PSP-1000, but look at what we have now, and no one seems to be mentioning it much. Is there a double-standard in the hardware arena? Nintendo and Apple can get away with it because they're trendy but Sony and Microsoft can't because they're trying to sell something new?

So, Escapists, do you like your hardware Super-Sized?

It depends. Usually in touch screen models it's better just to have more control over the touch part.

I see what you did there.

OT: I personally perfer a happy middle between the two, not big enough so that it becomes cumbersum, but not small enough so that it's easy to loose.

I like it bigger (no gay joke intended). I never got the obsession with small tech. "Whoa, it fits in my pocket, COOL!"

Two days later: "Has anyone seen my iPod Shuffle, it's about the size of a quarter?"

I like things to be small enough to be portable (if they're supposed to be), to fit in a normal sized pocket while being as comfortable in the visual department as possible. iPhone--perfect size. DS extra fatty, or whatever--no bueno.

It entirely depends on whta I'm using it for. my iPod is msall enough to fit in my pocket, os it's fine. But an iPad is more than just a mp3 player. it's more geared towards the visual things .ie drawing, so it's better being bigger

I looked for a way to mention that thing, but couldn't work it in. They are retarded small though. If the iPad is super sized then the iPod Shuffle is anorexic.

I'm sick of people making progressively smaller technology that was built for gnomes or something.

I got myself the big DS. I didn't own a gameboy since the Gameboy Advance and the big screen is much better for my eyes than the small ones of the normal ds. I don't regret my purchase at all, especially after directly comparing it to my cousins small DS. The fact that it doesn't have a Advanvce-card slot is mildly annoying, but nothing to get that exicted about, i gave away most of my old games anyways.

On a different note, i found it mildly amusing that this thread was exactly over the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) thread when i wrote this post.

But what about the positive benefits of shrinking technology?

I like things to fit in my pocket if I am using them when I travel.
If it is a mobile device it should fit in a pocket really.

Depends on what the technology does, if its another one of the ten trillion variations of mobile phones (none of which are used for actually calling people anymore I'm pretty sure) then theres no need to go bigger than medium sized flask, or any smaller than an Ipod. ANyone who boasts about their technology because of its size is a wanker as far as I'm concerned.

I actually lost my Shuffle in my bed once. I had to strip it of the blankets and sheets to find it.

When it comes to touch screens I like them bigger becasue it makes them easier to use. Earlier today I was using my little sisters iTouch, I was getting a bit annoyed about how small the touch screen was. I then figured that if the iPod touch were any larger it would be unable to fit in a pocket.

*sigh* You can never win can you.

About iPod Classic is about as small as I want things, otherwise it's too fiddly, especially once you get older, and your fingers get fat...
