Call of Pripyat seems to be the one with the least issues, but at the same time, the worst voice acting.

"If you've got shomething spill da beanz, if not GET OUTTA HERE! That's right get on outta here!"

Ugh...

I need to decide on one.
Get Clear Sky, buy Call of Pripyat later. It can be hard to go back from improved versions. Plus there's a "complete mod [http://www.moddb.com/mods/clear-sky-complete]" for Clear Sky (and Shadow of Chernobyl) that changes a lot of things for an even better experience. They're still working on it for Call of Pripyat.

I dunno, getting Pripyat first would seem kinda like getting Half-Life 2: Episode 2 before playing Half-Life 2.

Call of Pripyat is the best of the three STALKER games, taking the best of both SoC and CS. Clear Sky's entire plot is just a rehash of the first game without the twist near the end, forcing you to spend most of the game trying to find Strelok. Call of Pripyat on the other hand takes a newer, slightly more open-world approach, and it works because the sidequest are actually fleshed out and worth doing, unlike in the previous games. All in all I think CoP is the most refined of the three games, and it's definitely the better buy.

Clear Sky was more of a prequel to Shadow of Chernobyl while Pripyat is a sequel, so if you want to play them in chronological order I suggest Clear Sky. Call of Pripyat has more polished gameplay though.

I loved SoC, Clear sky i played for a while and lost interest in, and CoP i finished but wasnt particularly impressed with.
Im not gonna vote for either, because in my opinion neither are worth full price, if you can find them in the bargain bins or something, then go for it!

Call of Pripyat is pretty small , the explorable world isn't as large as in SoC.

But the content that is present is very well polished. The engine is optimized so it runs smooth and without crashes, also the various sidequests this time really have a meaning and they are well made. It's very very good, the only problem is it's short lenght, right now I'm having CoP withdrawal problems, I want to explore and do more stuff but I'm already done :<

Never did Clear Sky.

Contrary to what is said above, I found CoP to be the most buggy and frankly annoying of all 3 games. It certainly has great approaches, like the huge anomalies, but...it's buggy.

And something that really pisses me off is that they changed the effects of the artifacts from SoC, but that's a rather petty complaint.

So my vote is for CS, if only for the chronological order. But be warned, it's also the most difficult (read: unfair) of all three.

I actually liked Clear Sky more then CoP. Both are riddled with bugs anyway and you can tell exactly how much Wodka those Russian developers been drinking. (i think they drank most when making Clear Sky)
Still, Clear Sky is longer and has more quests/mobs to shoot and loot. There are some nice mods for it also on moddb.com

Heheh. Jokes on you to to everyone that bought the American version. The fan translation for the Russian version is amazing. And you can't say there is such a thing as bad Russian voice acting.

No really. As far as I could tell there was no real connection between the stories.

Completely true, only Clear Sky has a connection with the previous game. But if he enjoys the series, he should get Clear Sky first and take in what it has to offer, before moving to Call of Pripyat. As I said, it can be hard to move back to an older less-polished version of a game. That was my reasoning.

Btw huge fan of the franchise speaking.
